Chapter 892

Jenny bit her lip, her heart racing. Had Joe told Rowan what happened? Did he want her ostracized? How could he be so cruel?

Extremely pale, she shook her head. "Are you regretting this?" she asked. "If so, you should leave."

Rowan slammed on the brakes. "You met Joe once, and now you want to break up? Am I just a backup? Is that it? Have you seen how he treats her?"

Terror gave way to understanding. Joe must have heeded her warning; otherwise, Rowan's reaction would be drastically different. He was behaving as he did when she'd ignored him for Joe.

Her eyes darted around. "Then why did you ask if I was hiding something?"

Rowan frowned. Joe and Skylar's treatment of Jenny seemed…off. His confusion solidified. He sighed. "I felt like you weren't dating me because you genuinely liked me."

Relief washed over Jenny. "How could you think that? You know me. I wouldn't have agreed to be with you if I hadn't realized I liked you. After I did, I sought you out. Of course I like you, Rowan. I love you dearly."

Overjoyed, Rowan stared intently. "Say that again! Jenny, say it again!"

Beaming, her eyes reflecting Rowan, she exclaimed, "I love you, Rowan! You're the person I love most in the world! We'll be together forever. You mustn't abandon me, no matter what!"

Rowan's curiosity vanished. He promised he wouldn't. Jenny hugged him excitedly. "You promised! You have to love me like this, no matter what!"

"Alright!"

That night, Gloria called Joe, putting her on speakerphone for Skylar. "I met Janine. We've set a wedding date—June next year. She's easygoing and didn't complain about the wait. She doesn't want a gift; she only hopes you'll treat Skylar well. Joe, if you dare mistreat her, I'll be the first to tell you off! She has two older and one younger brother who'll pummel you if you bully her!"

Gloria's advice left Joe speechless. Was this really his grandmother?

"Aren't you scared Skylar will bully me?"

"Skye would never! She's lovely. Why would she bully you? Even if you did, you'd have started it!" Gloria retorted.

Skylar grinned. Gloria was right.

Joe felt utterly insignificant to Gloria, especially compared to Skylar. He was nothing in comparison.
