My Flash Romance With the Richest Mogul Chapter 925
Justin prepared Vera a cup of coffee. Vera sipped it absentmindedly, a slight frown twisting her face; perhaps the bitterness, or perhaps the unfamiliar brand, disagreed with her.
"Christopher committed suicide," she announced.
Justin, ever calm, replied, "You should cease targeting Skylar. If things escalate, they won't be as easily managed as this time."
To them, Christopher's suicide was inconsequential. He was merely a greedy man who played the game poorly and paid the ultimate priceโa self-inflicted consequence.
Vera's face darkened. "I didn't anticipate this. I only wanted him to pressure Skylar into leaving Joe, but he kidnapped her and achieved nothing."
"The last time I saw Skylar, she seemed perceptive. She likely sensed something amiss. You should distance yourself from both her and Joe for a while," Justin added, feeling the warning necessary, regardless of Vera's compliance.
Vera scowled impatiently. "Of course she's smart. How else could she cling to Joe so tenaciously?"
These were confidences Vera shared only with Justin. To anyone else, such concerns would reveal an unhealthy preoccupation with Skylar, a woman most would consider unremarkable and undeserving of her attention.
"Perhaps Joe likes her," Justin suggested.
"Impossible!" Vera vehemently denied, her face paling.
Realizing she might have overshared, she silently finished her coffee, a cold expression settling on her features.
The next few days were a whirlwind of activity for Skylar, her schedule overflowing from morning until night. By Friday, she planned to skip lunch to catch up on work, but her colleagues invited her to a nearby barbecue restaurant. Caleb, exhausted and bloodshot from fatigue, readily agreed to a team-building lunch as a means of rejuvenation.
Their group of ten occupied the largest private room. The restaurant boasted a unique ambiance and exceptional food. Skylar seized the opportunity to photograph the scene and suggest it to Natalie for a post-return meal.
Feeling overly full, Skylar excused herself to the restroom. Upon emerging, she stepped outside for some fresh air, where Natalie's reply to her message arrived. They chatted on WhatsApp for a while.
"Skye," Natalie wrote, "Mr. Powell's been asking me to rehearse extensively. Do you think he believes my acting is good? Should I consider a debut?"
Austin's compliments, it seemed, had ignited Natalie's acting ambitions. Unwilling to discourage her, Skylar replied, "The day you debut, I'll be your biggest fan."
"Skye, I love you more than anything!" Natalie responded.
After further conversation, Skylar's stomach settled, and she returned to the private room. Overhearing a nearby conversation, she caught snippets of a discussion.
"Rowan left his family, defied them for you. He's clearly determined to marry you. You're quite something. How did you manage to make him so devoted?"
"I didn't do anything. In fact, I didn't want him to estrange himself from his family."
"That's true. After the estrangement, without his family's supportโฆ who knows what the future holdsโฆ" Jenny's friend's voice trailed off, leaving the unspoken implications hanging in the air.
