Chapter 971
Austin and Hank were also staying on the ninth floor. Austin dismissed the suggestion, saying, โShe wouldnโt return to someone sheโs already left.โ
โReturn?โ Hank paused, then nodded vigorously. โYes, Natalieโs not one to change her mind. If she were, she would have reconciled with Jeremy when he first arrived in Fachington.โ
Back in the room, Natalie spoke first, looking at Jeremy. โWeโve talked a few times, but we havenโt resolved anything. Jeremy, we canโt continue like this.โ
Jeremy glanced around the room, noticing the absence of any signs of another man. Austin hadn't pursued things further with Natalie, it seemed.
Hearing Natalieโs words, Jeremyโs expression darkened. He sat on the couch, turning to face her. โWe indeed canโt continue like this. My relationship with Helena isnโt what you think. She signed with my companyโs film division, and we were on a business trip.โ
โYouโve completely misunderstood. If this were before, you would definitely have questioned me.โ
Natalie bit her lip. โYouโre right, that was before. Back then, I was your girlfriend, your wife. If you had another woman, I would have questioned you. But now that weโre divorced, who youโre with is no longer my concern.โ
At โno longer my concern,โ Jeremyโs eyes flashed intensely. โNow I can tell you that it does matter. I came here to say we need to remarry.โ
โRemarry? Jeremy, are you joking? Iโve never said I wanted to remarry you, nor have I ever agreed to it.โ Natalie stared at him in shock. His suggestion was incredibly presumptuous.
Chapter 971
Jeremyโs face darkened further as he stood. Towering over Natalie, the pressure was palpable.
Under his gaze, Natalie struggled to breathe and stepped back.
โDo you remember what I told you last time? Divorce was just a temporary measure to give you time to realize you are meant to be my wife for life.โ Jeremyโs voice was deep and serious. His feelings for Natalie were evident.
โAfter our divorce, my grandfather arranged another marriage for me, but I refused. I told them our divorce was temporary, that we would remarry soon. Even my parents and yours know about my decision. Natalie, youโve had enough time. Itโs time to return.โ
Natalieโs eyes reddened. โWhat do you need me to say? Our divorce wasnโt a temporary fix. We are truly divorced. When we divorced, I made it clear I would never remarry you.โ
She took a deep breath. โI donโt care what you or your family say, it doesnโt work for me. I cannot forgive your infidelity, nor overlook the damage to our relationship. Jeremy, our marriage is over. Itโs time to close this chapter.
โI used to think that even if we couldnโt be spouses or lovers, we could still be friends, siblings even. Now, I realize I was being naive. From now on, itโs best if we never see each other again.โ
Natalie felt utterly drained. Jeremyโs face went ashen. โNatalie!โ
His tone startled her; she took another step back.
โHave you fallen for someone else?โ Jeremy demanded, closing the distance between them.
Natalie was stunned, then frowned. โWe just divorced, and I havenโt had time to move on. Jeremy, donโt think so poorly of me. We canโt remarry because of the issues between us.โ
