Chapter 971

Austin and Hank were also staying on the ninth floor. Austin dismissed the suggestion, saying, โ€œShe wouldnโ€™t return to someone sheโ€™s already left.โ€

โ€œReturn?โ€ Hank paused, then nodded vigorously. โ€œYes, Natalieโ€™s not one to change her mind. If she were, she would have reconciled with Jeremy when he first arrived in Fachington.โ€

Back in the room, Natalie spoke first, looking at Jeremy. โ€œWeโ€™ve talked a few times, but we havenโ€™t resolved anything. Jeremy, we canโ€™t continue like this.โ€

Jeremy glanced around the room, noticing the absence of any signs of another man. Austin hadn't pursued things further with Natalie, it seemed.

Hearing Natalieโ€™s words, Jeremyโ€™s expression darkened. He sat on the couch, turning to face her. โ€œWe indeed canโ€™t continue like this. My relationship with Helena isnโ€™t what you think. She signed with my companyโ€™s film division, and we were on a business trip.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™ve completely misunderstood. If this were before, you would definitely have questioned me.โ€

Natalie bit her lip. โ€œYouโ€™re right, that was before. Back then, I was your girlfriend, your wife. If you had another woman, I would have questioned you. But now that weโ€™re divorced, who youโ€™re with is no longer my concern.โ€

At โ€œno longer my concern,โ€ Jeremyโ€™s eyes flashed intensely. โ€œNow I can tell you that it does matter. I came here to say we need to remarry.โ€

โ€œRemarry? Jeremy, are you joking? Iโ€™ve never said I wanted to remarry you, nor have I ever agreed to it.โ€ Natalie stared at him in shock. His suggestion was incredibly presumptuous.

Jeremyโ€™s face darkened further as he stood. Towering over Natalie, the pressure was palpable.

Under his gaze, Natalie struggled to breathe and stepped back.

โ€œDo you remember what I told you last time? Divorce was just a temporary measure to give you time to realize you are meant to be my wife for life.โ€ Jeremyโ€™s voice was deep and serious. His feelings for Natalie were evident.

โ€œAfter our divorce, my grandfather arranged another marriage for me, but I refused. I told them our divorce was temporary, that we would remarry soon. Even my parents and yours know about my decision. Natalie, youโ€™ve had enough time. Itโ€™s time to return.โ€

Natalieโ€™s eyes reddened. โ€œWhat do you need me to say? Our divorce wasnโ€™t a temporary fix. We are truly divorced. When we divorced, I made it clear I would never remarry you.โ€

She took a deep breath. โ€œI donโ€™t care what you or your family say, it doesnโ€™t work for me. I cannot forgive your infidelity, nor overlook the damage to our relationship. Jeremy, our marriage is over. Itโ€™s time to close this chapter.

โ€œI used to think that even if we couldnโ€™t be spouses or lovers, we could still be friends, siblings even. Now, I realize I was being naive. From now on, itโ€™s best if we never see each other again.โ€

Natalie felt utterly drained. Jeremyโ€™s face went ashen. โ€œNatalie!โ€

His tone startled her; she took another step back.

โ€œHave you fallen for someone else?โ€ Jeremy demanded, closing the distance between them.

Natalie was stunned, then frowned. โ€œWe just divorced, and I havenโ€™t had time to move on. Jeremy, donโ€™t think so poorly of me. We canโ€™t remarry because of the issues between us.โ€
