The Sword Woman's Revenge Story After Rebirth
Chapter 79: Poison
Isolde was not surprised by Miltonโs attitude. Milton would not resist stubbornly; escape was futile. He was someone who always found the quickest way to turn a situation to his advantage. Since the Royal Court began investigating him, Milton was likely prepared, possessing evidence guaranteeing a light sentence. The laws of the Eryndral Empire stipulated that an accomplice providing key, significant evidence would receive a lighter sentence. Adapting to the situation had always been Milton's motto.
Several people gradually walked out of the forest: Princess Aveline, Lord Garraway, Lord Schuman, the High Magistracy of Argentum, and several inspectors from the High Court of Parliament. Miltonโs face was filled with regret and guilt. He knelt, crying, โIโve let the King down!โ The case was significant, requiring a report to the king. Lord Garraway stared at Milton and slowly ordered, โGuards, detain Milton and bring him to the prison of the High Court of Parliament first.โ Milton cried harder, yet his cries were more relaxed than before. It was acceptable as long as he didn't go to Southern Watch.
Throughout the process, he avoided eye contact with Isolde until the officer took him away. As he was escorted out, he glanced at Isolde; his gaze, a deep crimson, was filled with malice and hatred. That glance vanished instantly, replaced by his expression of regret. Milton lowered his head and left.
Milton was taken away publicly, followed by Oliver and the pale Isolde. Samiyah and Eleanor were shocked, their faces turning pale. Milton looked back at Lord Garraway and pleaded, โLord Garraway, can I say goodbye to my wife?โ
โGo on.โ Lord Garraway secretly signaled Oliver, who nodded and instructed the guards.
Milton said gratefully, โThank you!โ Under everyoneโs shocked gazes, he walked to Samiyah and Eleanor. He hugged Samiyah and whispered in her ear. Then, letting go, he said in a choked voice, โI deserve this. You have to take care of the family and our son. Donโt follow in my footsteps. Do you understand?โ
Samiyahโs lips trembled; tears welled in her eyes. She nodded vigorously. โSure.โ Eleanor, on the other hand, was shocked, her face pale. She kept asking, โDad, whatโs going on?โ Milton didnโt answer; instead, he turned and looked at Isolde. Oliver subconsciously stopped him.
Chapter 25: Poison
With a single sentence, Isolde was thrown into the eye of the storm. Afterward, Milton said to Lord Garraway, "I can leave now." Lord Garraway looked at the contrite Milton and sent guards to take him away.
Geoffrey watched from afar. Hearing Miltonโs words, his heart skipped a beat; a surge of anger followed. It was only a matter of time before Milton was dealt with; however, there had never been sufficient evidence before. The cause of Ethanโs death was unknown, and the murderer remained unfound.
Now, Geoffrey knew the birthday party was a pretenseโa plot to trap Milton. He was angry at being kept in the dark, having investigated the matter himself. Lord Garraway and Isolde had betrayed him.
Isolde felt Geoffreyโs angry gaze. She turned away, avoiding his eyes. A surge of nausea rose in her chest, nearly causing her to lose her balance. Oliver supported her. โHow are you?โ
โIโm fine,โ Isolde smiled, her face pale. โThe Marshal is very good at fighting. Although I tried my best to dodge his attack, I was still injured.โ
โLetโs go and rest first!โ Oliver called Helena to support Isolde as they entered the house together. Behind Isolde, countless venomous eyes stared.
Lord Garraway smiled. โItโs just a small matter. I wonโt ruin everyoneโs mood. Her Royal Highness also hired performers tonight. Please head to the garden to enjoy the show.โ
News of Miltonโs investigation had spread throughout Argentum. His arrest, with its conclusive evidence, caused immediate panic. Shadowmereโs collusion with Argentum authorities involved many people; the exact number was impossible to estimate, but some present were also involved. Lord Garraway and Princess Avelineโs use of a birthday party as a trap highlighted their ruthlessness. However, it was not a good time to leave. They went to the garden worriedly, constantly sending people out for news.
Jonathan walked with Geoffrey. He said admiringly, โGeoffrey, I envy you having such an outstanding daughter.โ
The praise didnโt sit well with Geoffrey, but he smiled faintly and said, โHow can my daughter be as outstanding as yours? Iโm afraid many people are envious of you.โ Jonathan was very happy to hear Geoffrey praise his daughters. He glanced at Sadie beside him. โSure. Itโs all thanks to the Queen Motherโs guidance.โ Sadie maintained a gracious and proper smile, looking demure and gentle. โFather, Geoffrey, Iโll go and see Lady Isolde. Sheโs probably injured.โ Sadie knew medicine, having learned it from the Queen Mother.
โGo on then,โ Jonathan said with a smile. Sadie bowed and left with her two maids.
Chapter 29: Parson
Isolde had just entered the house when she spat out blood. Helenaโs expression changed drastically. Oliver took out medicine for internal injuries and gave it to her. He took her pulse; it was chaotic. He said in a low voice, โYour internal injury is quite serious. You need a doctor immediately.โ
Sadie hurried in, saying, โI am a doctor.โ Oliver bowed. โLady Sadie.โ
โNo need for formalities. Help her lie down first,โ Sadie instructed. Helena helped Isolde onto the couch. Isolde could barely hold on; she spat out more blood and felt dizzy.
Sadie took Isoldeโs pulse. โYour injuries are alright; your heart and lungs are fine. Youโll recover after resting a while,โ Sadie said, frowning. โBut you were poisoned. Did you know?โ
Isolde was stunned. โPoisoned?โ
โThatโs right. Youโd usually be fine, but with internal injuries, the poison attacks your heart. Your chaotic pulse makes it seem like youโre seriously injured. Do you feel dizzy, nauseous, and is your heart racing?โ asked Sadie.
โYes.โ Isolde hadnโt expected poison. Sheโd been careful with her diet and only used trusted people.
Oliver was surprised. โBut when I checked her pulse, I couldnโt detect any signs of poison.โ
Sadie said indifferently, โIf you can diagnose it, my lord, it wouldnโt be Sinistrum.โ
โSinistrum?โ Oliver and Isolde echoed, looking at each other. Neither had heard of this poison before.
Sadie ordered the maid to close the door. She said seriously to Isolde, โSinistrum means being poisoned in the womb. If your body wasnโt fit because of your training, you wouldnโt have lived past sixteen.โ
Isoldeโs eyes darkened. โIn my motherโs womb? Your ladyship, are you saying my mother was poisoned when she was pregnant?โ
Sadie replied, โI canโt say for sure if she was poisoned, but she has been poisoned. As for you, when you were born, the area around your eyes and lips would have been faintly blue because of Sinistrum.โ
โIs the poison very serious?โ Isolde asked.
Sadie nodded. โYes.โ She looked at Oliver and Helena. โYou two go out first. I have something to say to Miss Langley alone.โ
