Chapter 130
Sienna bit a cigarette, her eyes deep in thought. โTheyโre all in their seventies or eighties. Missing an arm or a leg is nothing unusual at that age.โ
โI understand, Miss Enna. But are you sure we really donโt need to go to the hospital?โ Lana said.
โNo, thatโs not necessary. Howโs Winifred doing?โ Sienna asked.
โReno watched her go home himself,โ Lana said.
Sienna let out a soft sigh. โLana, do you think Iโve failed as a sister? Before Mom passed away, she made me promise to look after them, but I was gone for ten years.โ
Lana could hear the tremor in Siennaโs voice and saw the pain and regret in her eyes. Lanaโs heart twisted with sympathy as she comforted her. โMiss Enna, you had your reasons. You didnโt even remember anything for those ten years.โ
There were so many things Lana wanted to say, but she was afraid of making Sienna unhappy.
Back then, Sienna was just a girl who had just turned eighteen, forced to shoulder burdens no ordinary person could ever imagine.
In Lanaโs memory, Sienna had always been strong and steady, with no one able to threaten her position. But in exchange for that, she had paid a painful price. Lana also didnโt understand why Sienna, who could have ruled in Meridia, chose to return for her family.
When Sienna got home, it was already late at night. Sienna found Vivian still sitting in the living room, waiting for her. โVivian, itโs so late. Why arenโt you asleep?โ Sienna asked.
Vivian stood up and walked over to her, looking Sienna up and down. When she spotted the slight swelling on Siennaโs arm, her eyes widened. โSienna, youโre hurt!โ
โIt's nothing, just a minor injury,โ Sienna replied casually.
โDoes it hurt?โ Vivian asked, her voice full of concern.
As they entered Siennaโs room, Sienna shrugged off her coat, revealing the wound on her arm. Vivian cautiously reached out, her fingers trembling as she touched it. Her eyes filled with tears, and her voice choked. โSiennaโฆโ
โIโm really okay, it doesnโt hurt at all. Vivian, itโs so late. You should get some sleep,โ Sienna said softly.
Vivian nodded, knowing it was time to let Sienna rest. โYou should sleep too. If you feel unwell, just call me. Iโve decided. Tomorrow, Iโm going abroad with Anya. I want to improve myself. I canโt let you shoulder all the responsibilities alone. I want to help, even with small things.โ
Sienna smiled softly and ruffled Vivianโs hair. โYouโve grown up, Vivian. Iโll take you to the airport tomorrow.โ
Vivian quickly shook her head. โNo, thatโs not necessary, Sienna. The driver can take me. By the way, did you find her?โ
โYes, I did. Vivian, Winifred is a bit reserved, but weโre all family. If she wants to come back, make sure to get along with her,โ Sienna said.
โI understand,โ Vivian replied. Even though it was hard for her, for Sienna, Vivian was willing to accept Winifred, just like she had learned to accept Amber before.
Vivian lay in bed, restless, as memories from ten years ago flooded back. Their mother had barely been around during their childhood. Sienna had been the one to raise them.
Their mother, a workaholic, was always focused on assigning tasks to Sienna before heading off to work. Their father, Aiden, was the one who cooked, tended the garden, and took care of them.
That night, Aiden came home exhausted, with bloodshot eyes, and told them Sienna wasnโt coming back.
None of them wanted to believe it. It wasnโt until Aiden brought Linda into the house and after days of waiting that Vivian finally accepted the truthโSienna wasnโt coming back.
Amber cried and begged for Sienna every day, and that was when Jocelyn comforted her.
