Chapter 231
โSienna, who is he?โ Vivian asked, spotting a man in the living room, kicking back with his legs crossed, casually tossing grapes into his mouth.
โJust a friend from abroad," Sienna replied, her tone flat.
Thorn Noir turned his head and cut in, โWeโre not just regular friends. Let me introduce myself. Iโm Thorn Noir. Sienna spent all ten years overseas with me, you know.โ
Thorn sure knew how to make things sound suspicious.
Of course, Vivian totally misunderstood him. Her eyes went wide as she pointed at him. โYouโre Siennaโs boyfriend?โ
Thorn was over the moon at that. He thought to himself, โShe really knows how to talk. If I could, Iโd hand her a couple million right now just to show my appreciation."
Sienna kept a straight face. โNo, heโs just a chauffeur I used to hire.โ
โHuh?โ Vivian instantly got it. โWait, guys? Such a handsome guy is working as a chauffeur now?โ
Thorn sighed, almost choking on his grape. โA chauffeur? Seriously?โ he wondered.
If being her chauffeur meant sticking by Siennaโs side every day, heโd do it in a heartbeat.
โWhat are you doing here? Didnโt I tell you not to disturb my life?โ Sienna said coldly.
Thorn felt a wave of irritation at her frosty tone. โShe never talks to Wayne like this,โ he thought. โSheโs so blatantly playing favorites. I canโt accept that.โ
โIโm not here to disturb your life. Iโm here to join you guys,โ Thorn replied.
Vivian was speechless. โAre people really this desperate for a job these days?โ
โGet out,โ Sienna said expressionlessly, sitting down across from him.
Thorn straightened up, feeling a weird pang in his chest. With a bit of resentment, he asked, โWhy are you so cold to me, but so gentle with Wayne? Do you like him?โ
Sienna lowered her eyes, took a sip of coffee, and shot him a chilly glance. โWhatever I do has nothing to do with you.โ
โHow is none of my business? Thereโs a lot going on between us,โ Thorn shot back right away.
โJust spit it out,โ Sienna snapped.
Thorn arched an eyebrow with a cheeky grin, eyeing the cup in her hand. โYou know, I like to drink coffee in pairs. That cup? I already sipped from it. You donโt mind, do you?โ
Sienna felt her chest tighten, anger flashing in her eyes. She gripped the cup and slammed it down on the table with a loud thud.
Seeing her pissed off, Thorn just kept teasing, his tone shameless. โCome on, weโre so close. Why sweat the small stuff? Right? Okay, my bad. I didnโt drink from it, I swear. Just messing with you, really."
One moment, Thorn was all smiles, and the next, he leapt up in shock, staring at the fruit knife stabbed into the spot where heโd just been sitting. He felt a chill run down his spine. Heโd almost lost his most precious asset.
"Savage woman," Thorn grumbled to himself. "How could she treat her future husband like this?"
Sure, his odds of actually becoming her husband were maybe one percent at best, but hey, one never knewโmaybe one day, if they had a kid, heโd get promoted thanks to the "Husband" title.
โIf youโve got something to say, say it. Otherwise, get lost,โ Sienna said coldly.
"I need a plus one for tonight. If you take me to the event, Iโll be out of your hair and gone by tomorrow,โ Thorn said.
A deal had come up overseas, and he really did need to fly back right away. He wasnโt making it up. Something urgent had come up.
Sienna couldnโt be bothered to argue with him. โGot it.โ
โI knew youโd wait, seriously! You agreed? No take-backs, you promised. Iโll be waiting for you at eight tonight,โ Thorn called out, springing to his feet and waving as he hurried out the door.
He dashed off in case Sienna changed her mind if he lingered even a second longer.
โSienna, are you really going? You and himโฆโ Vivian asked, her voice full of curiosity.
โNo way a guy that good-looking is just a chauffeur, I canโt be sure about anything else, but one thingโs obvious. Heโs definitely after Sienna,โ Vivian thought to herself.
โIโm not going,โ Sienna replied flatly.
Vivian stared in shock, pointing at the guy who just left. โWait, but didnโt you just agree to go?โ
Sienna burst out laughing at Vivianโs reaction. โI only said โI got it,โ not that I was actually going.โ
โOh, I see.โ Vivian nodded her head three times in a row, the realization finally dawning on her. โSo Sienna knows how to play word games too,โ she thought, a little impressed.
Meanwhile, Thorn was impeccably groomed, polished to perfection. Ever since he left the Hart residence, heโd had a stylist give him a full makeover. Now, as he waited at the entrance of the event, people passing by couldnโt help but steal a few extra glances at him.
He wore a deep blue suit that radiated mystery and sophistication. His features were exquisite, with deep amber eyes that seemed to hold a thousand secrets. His striking bone structure gave him the air of a royal prince, tall and powerfully built, yet every bit as refined.
Thorn figured Sienna definitely wouldnโt want him picking her up, so he took the hint and didnโt insist. He waited outside in high spirits, fussing with his hair and glancing at the time every so often. โWhy isnโt she here yet? Weโre about to miss the start,โ he thought.
Thorn sent her the invitation and event time on WhatsApp.
She mustโve gotten held up by something. I donโt mind waiting a bit longer, he told himself.
But Thorn waited and waited, and still, there was no sign of Sienna. After what felt like forever, it finally dawned on himโshe totally stood him up.
Sienna? he fumed inwardly, practically shouting her name in his head. This woman is seriously ruthless. I waited all night for nothing. How could she do me like this?
With a loud smack, Thorn tossed the roses and jewelry straight into the trash, then jumped in his car and sped off, ready to settle the score with her.
