Chapter 268
Sienna Hart curled her lips into a smile. Of course, Evan Ash knew what would happen. He was just sending a message to her.
This guyโs got a keen eye, Sienna thought to herself.
โHave Fay Santos bring that person to me. Get everything ready โ weโre heading back by sea,โ Sienna ordered.
The leak came from someone under Fayโs management, and the person must have a rather unique relationship with Fay. Sienna was curious to see just how much longer he could keep this up.
โYes, maโam!โ Lana Yost immediately understood Sienna was planning to go with them.
โMr. Eaton, she accepted them,โ Evan reported as he returned.
Finn Eaton sat in the car, rubbing a pair of earrings in his hand. When he saw Evan return, he carefully put the earrings back into the box.
Unable to hold back his curiosity, Evan asked carefully, โMr. Eaton, is she the one you like?โ
Finn didnโt even try to hide it. โYeah.โ
โSo, how are you two getting along?โ
โJust drive,โ Finn let out a helpless sigh, clearly not wanting to talk about it any further. Evan got the hint and kept quiet, focusing on the road.
Thorn Noir got absolutely plastered at a bar. He staggered to Siennaโs place, too scared to even knock, and ended up passing out at her doorstep. When Sienna heard about it, she told Lana to toss him into the trash can.
The next morning, he woke up in a shaking garbage truck, the stench so bad he could barely breathe. โHelp! Somebody help me!โ he yelled.
โSienna, youโre really ruthless. Who else would dare treat me like this except for you?โ
Looking like a total mess, he was walking down the street when he ran into Finn.
Finn was a bit surprised to see him in such a distant area. He took a final bite of his bread and tossed the wrapper into a nearby trash receptacle.
โWhat are you staring at? Never seen a handsome guy before?โ Nightfall snapped.
He was only embarrassed for a couple of seconds before instantly switching to a cocky attitude, shooting Finn a glare. He practically stormed away, like his feet were on fire.
โMr. Eaton, Iโm late,โ Evan said as he parked the car.
Noticing that Finn was still staring at a figure walking away, he asked, puzzled, โMr. Eaton, whoโs that?โ
โLooks like someone who spent the night in a garbage truck.โ
Evan was dumbfounded.
โForget it. Letโs get back to business.โ
โMr. Eaton, are we heading out tonight? We might as well wait a little longer โ there are definitely a lot of people lying in wait for us.โ
He knew they were caught between a rock and a hard place โ danger in every direction, and every extra minute they stayed just made things riskier.
โEvan, no matter when we leave, thereโll always be people waiting for us. There have always been people after money. This shipment isnโt just jade ore โ there are other important things. These belong to our country, and if anyoneโs going to keep them safe, it should beโฆโ
โMr. Eaton, that lady doesnโt seem like just anyone.โ
But before he could finish, Finn snapped, โIf you dare disturb her, youโll have me to answer to.โ
โYes, Mr. Eaton.โ
Realizing heโd raised his voice, Finn lowered his eyes. โEvan, from now on, just stay away from her. I donโt want her dragged into any trouble.โ
He would never disrupt her marriage. If his actions hurt their relationship, heโd never forgive himself.
Evan could truly feel the kind of deep feelings that couldnโt be spoken aloud. He just couldnโt understand; if Mr. Eaton couldnโt let her go, why not fight for her, or at least give it a try?
โMr. Eaton, maybe itโs all just a misunderstanding, youโฆ?โ Evan ventured.
โAs long as sheโs happy, does it really matter if thereโs a misunderstanding?โ
After sending Evan out to take care of things, Finn reached into his chest pocket for an old, yellowed photo. It was a picture of Sienna Hart at seventeen โ innocent, flawless, and brimming with talent.
He gently ran his fingers over the image. In his heart, Sienna had never truly left. Now that she was back, he told himself he should be happy. But as that thought crossed his mind, Finn gazed up at the night sky, eyes shimmering with unshed tears.
โMiss Hart, weโve confirmed that Mr. Eatonโs ship is setting sail tonight,โ Lana reported.
Sienna set down the documents in her hand. โThose antique vessels are what he really needs to bring back home. No wonder there are so many players eyeing this route.โ
Lana looked puzzled. โMiss Hart, I donโt get it. The Eaton family made their name and fortune from antiques and relics โ theyโve got serious pull in both politics and business. Even if theyโve been keeping a low profile lately, it doesnโt seem like theyโd be the type to get pushed around by so many people.โ
Sienna let out a helpless sigh, unbuttoning her coat and started to change.
โLana, youโre underestimating how dark people can be inside. When temptation is strong enough, nobody cares whose family you come from.โ
If someone managed to snatch this shipment, they could become a tycoon overnight โ the family could live in luxury for five generations.
โMiss Hart, are we trying to build a connection with them?โ
Sienna had mobilized a large team to protect Finn, and Lana believed she could gain much from all this.
โNo strings attached,โ Sienna said.
Lana was completely stunned. She thought, โIs Madam really planning to do this without getting anything in return?โ
โMiss Hart bought him at the auction just to build a connection, didnโt she? The Eaton family is loaded and powerful โ if Miss Hart doesnโt take advantage of that, it wouldnโt be like her at all. With our global network, thereโs no way she doesnโt know how rich they are.โ
Even the gifts theyโve sent are worth a fortune.
Sienna raised an eyebrow, a playful glint in her eyes. โLana, am I really that much of a money-grubber in your eyes?โ
Lanaโs eyes went wide in disbelief. She thought, โMiss Hart, arenโt you though? Werenโt you the one who always said that when thereโs profit on the line, everything else is just empty talk?โ
Sienna changed into a black dress. Her face grew distant, a sorrow she couldnโt shake off clouding her eyes.
โLana, he meant a lot to me,โ she said quietly.
It hit Lana โ this was the first time her boss had ever called anyone besides family important.
Suddenly, a wild idea popped into her head. โIs Mr. Eaton her long-lost older brother? Or some kind of relative?โ
Lanaโs mind was spinning. But sheโd never even considered that possibility before. In her eyes, Sienna never talked about love or feelings...
