Chapter 126: Zachary At The Hospital
Nathaniel's heart pounded as he saw the scrapes on Cecelia's hands and legs. He immediately pulled her back into the car, instructing the driver to go to the hospital.
Fear washed over Cecelia as she sat in the car, reflecting on her impulsive actions. For Jonathan and Elliot's sake, she couldn't afford to be hurt.
Nathaniel, his expression tense, asked, "What are you upset about?"
Cecelia felt a faint pain in her hands and legs but remained silent. The car fell silent again. Nathaniel disliked her silence. She used to talk incessantly, especially as a child, but now she often fell silent without explanation.
He snapped, "Where were you planning to go?"
"I just wanted to stretch my legs. I didn't have a particular destination in mind," she replied.
The driver pulled up to the hospital entrance, and Nathaniel helped Cecelia out. In the outpatient department consultation room, Nathaniel opened the door and entered.
"Nathaniel, what are you doing here?" a familiar voice called out.
Zachary, in a doctor's robe, sat in the room. His usual lightheartedness was gone, replaced by a seriousness that surprised Nathaniel.
Nathaniel didn't answer, instead asking, "Why are you here?"
Zachary's gaze flickered to Cecelia, then quickly away. "Old Mr. Sinclair insisted I gain some life experience," he said. He'd always been disinterested in medicine but was compelled by George to study it, along with law and international business. George hoped this experience would better equip Zachary to manage the family business. He only agreed to work at the hospital to avoid marrying Vivian.
He couldn't understand why George was so insistent on his marrying Vivian. The thought of Vivian and her child always caused him a headache.
Nathaniel didn't pursue the subject, instead directing Cecelia to Zachary. "Take care of her wounds."
Zachary examined Cecelia's scrapes. "Come and have a seat." His demeanor was professional. Cecelia knew Zachary would restrain himself with Nathaniel present, so she sat and allowed him to examine her injuries.
After examining her, Zachary removed his gloves. "They're superficial." He asked a nurse for cream, then started to apply it, but Nathaniel stopped him.
"Give it to me."
Zachary protested, "I can do it."
Nathaniel's face darkened, reaching for the cream. Seeing their hesitation, Cecelia took the cream. "I'll do it myself."
She began tending to her wounds. The atmosphere was tense. Zachary approached Nathaniel.
"Nathaniel, what happened?"
Leaning against the wall, Nathaniel kept his eyes on Cecelia. "Someone was reckless enough to jump out of a moving car."
Zachary's heart clenched, but he maintained his composure. "Isn't the company anniversary event today? When are you going?"
"Later," Nathaniel replied, glancing at the time.
Somehow, George learned Nathaniel was at the hospital. He immediately summoned Nathaniel for a talk. Before leaving, Nathaniel told Cecelia, "Wait for me."
Cecelia and Zachary were alone in the office.
