Chapter 127: His Words Are Not Trustworthy
Zachary thought she might have missed a spot and reached out to help. When Cecilla saw his outstretched hand, she instinctively recoiled, believing he was going to hit her. The cream landed on the back of Zacharyโs hand.
โIโm sorry,โ Cecilla said, rising. โIโll leave.โ
Zachary clarified, โI was only trying to help you apply the cream.โ
โThanks, but you donโt have to,โ Cecilla replied, preparing to leave.
Zachary, wanting to avoid further misunderstanding, stopped her. โNathaniel asked you to wait for him.โ
Cecilla looked at him indifferently. โI can wait outside.โ
Zachary, unsettled by her demeanor, said, โDonโt be afraid of me. I wonโt hurt you again.โ
Cecilla felt this was a cruel joke. It was the same tactic Zachary had used in the past to lower her guard.
โCan you step aside?โ she asked. She didn't want to deal with him, regardless of whether he intended harm.
Zachary blocked the doorway. โFinish applying the medicine first, then you can go.โ
Cecilla, fearing his unpredictable behavior, decided to comply. Afterward, Zachary said, his concern evident, โDonโt be so reckless in the future. Jumping from a moving car is dangerous. Luckily, you only suffered minor injuries this time.โ
Cecilla remained silent, having long since learned to distrust his unpredictable moods. She swiftly finished applying the medicine. โMr. Sinclair, Iโm done. Can I leave now?โ
Zacharyโs heart ached as he met her clear, distant gaze. โJust stay here. I promise I wonโt do anything to you, okay?โ He softened his voice.
Cecillaโs gaze dimmed. She knew his words were untrustworthy. However, trapped on his property and knowing he was Nathanielโs close friend, she couldnโt leave. She remained silent.
Seeing she wasn't leaving, Zachary fetched more cream, handing it to her after packing it. โRemember to apply it three times daily, and you wonโt be left with any scars.โ
Cecilla would have considered him a kind and competent doctor, were it not for his past actions. โThank you,โ she said, accepting the medicine.
Zachary, noticing her guard had lessened, wanted to apologize for his past behavior, but the words failed him. He considered his past mistakes: misidentifying her as his savior, lashing out, and causing her harm. He changed his approach.
โCecilia, do you still remember saving someone in university?โ he asked.
โI remember,โ Cecilla said calmly. โHe said he would repay me well.โ
Zachary felt a lump in his throat. Cecilla swiftly changed the subject. โBut I regret it now. If I had another chance, I definitely wouldnโt save him.โ
Zachary started to explain, but Nathaniel interrupted, โLetโs go.โ
Cecilia rose and followed Nathaniel. Outside, she threw the medicine Zachary had given her into a trash bin. She wondered if he had tampered with it.
Nathaniel asked, โWhat did you throw away?โ
โJust trash.โ
