Chapter 158: Reclaiming the Lost Respect

Cecilia arrived at Vivian's house early. They had breakfast while waiting for Stella's apology.

"Why the sudden apology?" Vivian asked, puzzled. Stella had recently spent heavily suppressing negative news; this about-face was baffling. Cecilia admitted she didn't know either. Normally, Nathaniel and Zachary would have easily handled the situation; their inaction suggested they weren't helping Stella.

"Don't overthink it," Cecilia advised. "Focus on reclaiming your respect."

"Right," Vivian replied.

"I'll leave you to it," Cecilia added. "Shine."

"Okay."

By ten o'clock, when Stella arrivedโ€”accompanied by a lawyerโ€”Cecilia had retreated to the bedroom. Stella, masked and sunglasses-clad, entered, her gaze settling on Vivian.

"Hello, Ms. Kennedy," Stella said, keeping her sunglasses on.

Vivian didn't offer a seat. "Let's skip formalities, Ms. Ross. Apologize."

Stella choked back tears. Reminded of the online news, she mumbled, "I'm sorry."

"Not sincere," Vivian countered. "Let's end this."

Stella's impatience grew, but her lawyer restrained her. Stella removed her sunglasses and mask, bowing again. "I'm sorry. I'll accept all proposed compensation."

Vivian felt unprecedented satisfaction witnessing Stella's humility.

"My client requires a public apology admitting plagiarism," Vivian stated. They wouldn't let Stella off easily.

Stella looked to her lawyer, who stepped forward. "Ms. Kennedy, consider a favor. Persuade your client against admitting plagiarism. I have connections that can boost your status and reputation quickly."

Vivian wasn't surprised. This was clearly an attempt to sway her.

Vivian laughed. "You miscalculated. Unlike Ms. Ross, I don't crave status or reputation."

Approaching Stella, Vivian mocked her: "Ms. Ross, the so-called superstar, a plagiarist, reckless abroad, and a homewrecker. Forget reputation. Brace yourself for the lawsuit and your downfall! I never intended to accept your apology."

Stella stared in disbelief. "What did you say?"

The bedroom door opened, revealing Cecilia. Stella's anger flared.

"Ceci, are you letting your friend get revenge because you lost Nathaniel?"

Cecilia was bewildered by Stella's accusations.

Stella's composure shattered. "I gave you a way out, but don't blame me for what I'll do!" she spat, storming out.

Alone in her minivan, Stella called Sean. "Didn't you promise to protect me? I want Cecilia dead! Only her death will make me return to you!" she demanded.
