Chapter 365: You Are Free To Leave
โWhat are you doing? Let go,โ Cecilia demanded.
He held her tighter, gently grasping her small hand with his other. โDonโt move. We wouldnโt want to harm our child.โ A thought struck him. โBy my calculations, it should be almost three months now. Letโs go for a prenatal checkup today.โ
Cecilia frowned. โI went a while ago. The child is very healthy. And let me repeat, the child is not yours.โ
Nathaniel was unfazed. He picked her up and headed upstairs. โNathaniel, put me down! Iโm not going back to the room!โ she insisted, gripping his arm. He remained firm.
Cecilia realized heโd been overstepping lately. After carrying her into the room, he gently closed the door and carefully placed her on the bed. โListen to me,โ he began.
Speechless, Cecilia hadnโt expected to be physically outmatched, even with his blindness. Exhausted, she drifted off to sleep, unconcerned with Nathaniel.
He listened to her steady breathing, ensuring she was asleep before leaving. Mason had been waiting. Seeing Nathaniel emerge, he opened the car door.
The car pulled into Sparavilleโs most luxurious building, a center for the countryโs finest psychiatrists, filled with advanced equipment. Lying on a piece of equipment, Nathaniel continued his treatment. Lately, his memory seemed increasingly clear.

Paradoxically, the clearer things became, the lonelier he felt. Most of his childhood memories had returned, along with images of his past with Ceciliaโtheir wedding, the realization of her deception, the mocking gazes and words.
Suddenly, Nathaniel opened his eyes, his face chilling. โMr. Rainsworth, are you okay?โ the doctor asked urgently, noticing his erratic heartbeat and weak brainwaves.
Nathaniel clenched his hand, perspiration beading on his forehead. โIโm fine,โ he assured him.
โThatโs it for today,โ the doctor declared immediately, fearing Nathaniel wouldnโt cope if the treatment continued. Nathaniel didnโt protest.
He remained silent on the drive home, his blindness mirroring the intentions of those who had wronged him. โMr. Rainsworth, weโve arrived,โ Mason announced.
โOkay.โ
Nathaniel stepped out. Mason watched him return to the house. Cecilia had awakened and was assisting the chef. Seeing Nathaniel, she asked, โHowโs your memory recovery going?โ
Despite recalling humiliating memories, her voice made his breath catch. He avoided her gaze. โThe doctor said my memory canโt be restored,โ he replied quietly, โbut the physical injuries have mostly healed.โ
Heโd once promised to regain his memories. Now, with some restored, he couldnโt bring himself to tell her.

Nathaniel approached, serious. โSo, you really want me to regain my memory?โ
โOf course. Once youโve regained your memory, youโre free to leave,โ Cecilia replied promptly.
So this was the plan all along? Nathaniel thought, a self-mocking smirk playing on his lips.
Cecilia, oblivious, said, โCome serve the dishes. Why are you just standing there like a fool? I donโt keep those who eat for free.โ
His throat tightened. Reluctantly, his legs moved him towards her. Without thinking, he reached out his hand.
