Chapter 465: Brewing Vengeance
But now, he no longer believed Ralph and Cassandra's lies.
โNo need. As long as youโre fine and can give me some pocket money, Iโm good,โ Magnus said with a laugh.
โOf course. Thatโs not a problem.โ
Cassandra rolled her eyes, wondering how sheโd ended up with such a lazy and gluttonous half-brother. After leaving him, she pondered how to teach Cecilia a lesson. She asked her assistant, โWhat does Cecilia do for a living?โ (Her assistant had previously been instructed to investigate Cecilia.)
โShe has a small studio in Erihal, making just enough to scrape by,โ the assistant replied.
โA small studio?โ Cassandra mused. โTeach her a lesson by shutting her studio down.โ
Given the Evans family's resources, dealing with a foreign studio was easy. However, Cassandra only knew what Cecilia had publicly revealed. Unbeknownst to her, Cecilia had composed the songs that made her a sensation back home. Even Ralph's wealth couldn't destroy Cecilia's company.
โAlright.โ
Cassandra remained unsatisfied. โGather a few people and come with me to Sparaville.โ Sheโd been humiliated and wouldn't let Cecilia escape unscathed. Wasn't Nicholas fond of Cecilia because of her apparent innocence?
Meanwhile, in Sparaville's living room, Nathaniel sat composed across from Cecilia, who interrogated him. โYou mentioned owing a lot of money. Whereโs the IOU?โ
Nathaniel knew Nicholas must have spoken to Cecilia. โWith Mason. If you want to see it, I can call him to bring it over.โ
โNicholas said you effectively hold thirty percent of the shares; youโre not short on money,โ Cecilia stated.
Cecilia only wanted to clarify things quickly. If he'd deceived her again, she wouldn't continue their relationship. Nathaniel understood. โIf I really held that much control, how could Mason and I have been ousted from the company? Cecilia, Nicholas may seem kind, but he's actually very calculating. I've told you this before. I understand him better than you do.โ
Cecilia remained unconvinced. โI need to see proof.โ
Nathaniel, knowing her temperament, called Mason. โOrganize all my outstanding debts and show them to Mrs. Rainsworth,โ he instructed.
Mason, engrossed in his work, was bewildered. What outstanding debts? Mr. Rainsworth's debts were owed to him. Both of them were making his life difficult again. Although lacking a financial background, Mason easily fabricated astronomical debts for Nathaniel, sending them only after careful review. Compared to Nathaniel's business acumen, both Cecilia and Nicholas had much to learn.
Upon receiving the records, Cecilia examined them; they appeared genuine. However, Nicholas hadn't needed to deceive her.
โMrs. Rainsworth, rest assured Mr. Rainsworth will gradually repay this. You must have faith in him. After all, while alone overseas, he even establishedโฆโ
Nathaniel interrupted Mason with a cough. โAlright, you should go rest now.โ
Mason hurriedly stopped, and Cecilia returned the documents.
โIf youโre deceiving me, Iโm not going to let it slide.โ
Mason, witnessing his boss threatened by a woman for the first time, wanted to laugh but dared not.
Nathanielโs voice softened. โI wouldnโt deceive you.โ If I didnโt do this, how else would you have stayed? He truly wanted to avoid another argument.
