Chapter 504: Thank You For Telling Me

Cecilia and Elliot stood outside. The woman was gorgeous and striking; the boy, adorable and well-behaved. Someone noticed the child's striking resemblance to Nathaniel. Elliot, sensing unfriendly gazes, furrowed his brows. "Indeed," he thought, "there isn't a single decent person in that family."

"Mommy, I need to pee," Elliot said.

"All right, I'll take you," Cecilia replied, leading him to a nearby restroom.

"Mommy, you should go back and wait for Mr. Rainsworth," Elliot suggested. "He might not find us. I remember the way; I'll find you later."

Cecilia agreed, noting the restroom's proximity. "All right, but call if you can't find me." Both Elliot and Cecilia wore smartwatches. Elliot nodded repeatedly before entering the men's restroom.

Inside, most of Nathaniel's relatives were present, but Nicholas was nowhere to be seen. Adrian, recently discharged from the hospital, kept his head down, avoiding Nathaniel's gaze. His failed attempts to flirt with Cecilia had resulted in Nathaniel throwing him into an icy river, narrowly avoiding death. Miranda had even considered divorce. Only after profuse promises did she relent. The memory made Adrian clench his fists. Hearing that Cecilia had returned with a child, he immediately urged Miranda to investigate.

When Miranda stepped outside, she saw only Cecilia waiting. She had to admit Cecilia's superior beauty. The thought of Adrian's ill intentions toward Cecilia chilled her. She strode forward, proud and imperious.

"Cecilia," Miranda began, "I never expected that when I helped you, you would end up setting up my husband." By "helped," she meant revealing Nathaniel's twin brother.

Cecilia, recalling the events, looked at Miranda's proud face with pity. "Miranda, even if you weren't there, anyone present could see what your husband did."

"My husband had a drink. Do you really think he'd fancy a deaf person like you?" Miranda retorted sarcastically.

"So, you're saying Adrian lost control after drinking?" Cecilia challenged, her former passivity gone.

"What are you babbling about?" Miranda exploded, reaching for Cecilia.

Cecilia swiftly seized Miranda's wrist. "Did I say something wrong? If so, it means he had ulterior motives. You didn't manage him well, yet you scold me? What's the meaning of this?" Releasing Miranda's hand, she continued, "Thank you for telling me about Nicholas. I won't hold it against you. But if you ever try to touch me again, don't blame me for fighting back."

Miranda recoiled, about to speak, when Elena and Cassandra appeared. Elena, having heard of Elliot's arrival, had come to see the child. She witnessed Cecilia pushing Miranda away. Though she didn't particularly like Cecilia, she understood the importance of protecting her family. The idea of Robert's family bullying her daughter-in-law was ludicrous.

"Miranda," Elena said, "Felix has been bothering Dad. Aren't you going to do something about it?"

Miranda, somewhat intimidated by Elena, simply replied, "Oh, okay."
