Chapter 505: Take Me to Mommy
Mirandaโs mother-in-law, also Adrianโs mother, was a struggling model who had never received much respect. Elena, however, was different. Elena's brothers wielded considerable power and wealth, easily influencing her fate.
Miranda resented not being Elena's daughter-in-law; if she were, her son Felix would already have Rainsworth Group shares. Resentment surged, but Miranda masked it, courteously glancing at Elena before turning to Cassandra, who smiled slightly. "Miranda," she said. Miranda nodded and left. Cassandra watched her go, pleased. I guess I'm not the only one who dislikes Cecilia. I have to build a good relationship with Miranda.
Not seeing Elliot, Elena asked Cecilia, "Where's the child who came with you?"
"Eli went to the restroom," Cecilia replied truthfully. Elena remained, gazing toward the restroom.
Elliot, however, had slipped out the back door, heading for the living room. The Rainsworth family's numerous relatives and children presented no obstacle. He easily navigated the crowd, spotting Nathaniel being scolded by an elderly man. This must be my great-grandpa, right? I'm sure he isn't any good, he whispered. He then saw Felix, handsomely dressed and eating fruit, exuding an air of self-importance. Little rascal. Jonathan had previously told Elliot about Felix; Elliot had seen him during a disguised visit to Rainsworth Manor.
He searched for his grandparents but found them absent. How odd. He'd intended to tease Elena. But his presence was soon noticed. "Isn't that the child Cecilia brought back?" someone remarked, drawing everyone's attention. Nathaniel frowned. Elliot showed no intention of fleeing. Niel, unsure of the child's identity, asked, "Whose child is that?"
Upon hearing Cecilia's name, Nathaniel recognized Elliot. Before he could react, Elliot ran to him, wrapping his arms around his leg. "Stepdaddy, I was lost. Thank goodness I found you."
The word "Stepdaddy" stunned everyone. Elliot wiped his nose and tears on Nathaniel's trousers. If I can't handle Elena, getting back at Nathaniel is a good alternative. You've been fighting with me over Mommy these past few days. I'll make sure you lose face in front of everyone, hmph.
His voice rising, he cried, "Stepdaddy, Stepdaddy, please take me to Mommy. She must be worried waiting for me." Nathaniel's face darkened. Again, the word "stepdaddy" echoed. Is it true, as the rumors suggest, that Nathaniel is unable to have a son of his own? Is he now really playing the role of a stepfather to someone else's child?
Just as Nathaniel was about to leave with Elliot, Elliot exclaimed, "Oh my! Stepdaddy, I'm sorry. After using the restroom earlier, I didn't dry my hands properly and accidentally got some pee on your pants."
Nathaniel and the others were speechless.
