Chapter 506: Pretended to Wipe

Elliot would never do anything so clumsy. He had simply spilled water on Nathaniel’s pants, then pretended to wipe it away. “Mommy said being a stepdad is harder than being a biological dad,” he explained. “Don’t be mad at me. I’ll clean it up.”

Everyone nearly burst out laughing, even the usually reserved Niel. But he remained alert. Where did this child come from? Could he really be Nathaniel’s son?

Before Niel could ask, Felix exclaimed in shock, “Jon, what did you just call me?”

Elliot stopped pretending, his eyes wide. “I’m not Jon. My name is Elliot Reese. Mr. Rainsworth and Mommy are together. He’s about to become my stepdad.”

Felix was stunned. Elliot looked exactly like Jon. He scrutinized Elliot, noting his paler complexion and less serious demeanor than Jonathan. Niel was even more perplexed. “Who is your mommy?”

“Cecilia,” Elliot replied.

Niel’s hand tightened around his cane. “Then who are you? And who is your real father?”

Before Elliot could answer, Nathaniel interrupted, “I’ll send him out.”

“Stop!” Niel rose and approached. Nathaniel hoisted Elliot up by his overalls. “Stepdaddy, I can walk by myself,” Elliot protested.

Niel finally got a good look at Elliot, who strongly resembled a younger Nathaniel. “Whose child are you?”

“I am the son of Calvin and Cecilia,” Elliot sneered inwardly, but said aloud.

“Who is Calvin?” Niel asked, confused.

“Calvin is the most formidable—” Nathaniel abruptly covered Elliot’s mouth. “Grandpa, don’t listen to his nonsense. He is my and Cecilia’s son,” Nathaniel stated calmly.

Upon hearing this, everyone was even more shocked, though they remained silent. Meanwhile, Cecilia and the others, waiting for Elliot, noticed his absence. Elena sent a housekeeper to investigate, discovering Elliot had wandered into the hall.

Cecilia followed and overheard Nathaniel’s statement. Her heart sank. When had Nathaniel found out? Elena also heard, exclaiming, “Is that true? I knew it! I suspected he was my grandson, especially since he looks just like a younger Nathaniel.”

Elena gazed at Elliot with affection. Elliot was utterly bewildered. He had intended to reveal that Nathaniel was raising another man's child, but things had gone terribly wrong.

Elliot tried to speak, but Nathaniel cut him off. “Quit messing around. So what if I didn’t buy you candy? How does that make me your stepfather?”

Elliot stared, bewildered. Bastard! I didn’t ask for any candy! he thought.

Elena scolded Nathaniel. “Why are you so stingy? If he wants candy, just give it to him!”

Niel beamed. “This kid really is like Nathaniel when he was younger.”

Elliot bit Nathaniel’s hand. Nathaniel frowned. As expected of Cecilia’s child, he thought, he likes to bite as much as she does.

The others congratulated Niel on his new great-grandson, secretly considering the implications for the Rainsworth inheritance. Adrian, Miranda, and Cassandra were visibly upset.

Before they could speak, Felix objected. “Nonsense. How could you possibly be Uncle Nathaniel’s son? My mommy said Uncle Nathaniel would never have children.”
