Chapter 507: Never Been As Lively
The Rainsworth residence had never been as lively as it was that day. Felix's cheeks burned as he vehemently pointed at Elliot. The others exchanged surprised glances, taken aback by Miranda's earlier private conversation with Felix.
Miranda felt awkward. "Felix, don't be absurd," she said. "I only mentioned your uncle's wife wasn't around; therefore, he had no children."
Felix, a child oblivious to the complexities of adult interactions, retorted, "No, Mommy, you said Uncle Nathaniel wasn't normal and couldn't have children!"
Miranda wished she could slap herself. "You misheard," she said.
Ignoring her, Felix rushed to Niel, taking his hand. "Great-Grandpa," he declared, "please send this unwanted child away! He's not family! He's a liar, trying to get our inheritance!" He pointed menacingly at Elliot. "I'm the Rainsworth heir, not him! Don't even think about it, or I'll kill you!"
Elliot's mouth was covered, so he could only glare with disdain. He didn't care about Felix's words, but other adults did.
Niel was shocked. He knew his great-grandson was mischievous, but he never expected this. The inheritance was beyond a four-year-old's comprehension. Losing his temper, Niel turned to Adrian and Miranda. "What have you taught your child?"
Adrian and Miranda finally grasped the situation's gravity. Miranda managed to restrain Felix, covering his mouth.
Leaning on his cane, Niel said, "Take him away."
"Understood," Adrian replied.
Felix, never imagining his usually indulgent great-grandfather would be so frightening, tried to speak, but in vain. As he was taken away, his glare at Elliot intensified.
After that incident, superficial congratulations resumed. Niel and Elena were genuinely delighted with their new descendant.
"Your father left the country today," Elena said to Nathaniel, smiling. "If he'd left later, he could have met Eli. Now, why don't you put him down? He must be uncomfortable."
Fearing more outbursts, Nathaniel kept holding Elliot. "We're leaving to rest," he said.
Elliot bit Nathaniel harder. I won't let that scumbag succeed!
Nathaniel's hands bled, but he remained unmoved. He carried Elliot from the room, the others making way. Cecilia, feeling chilled, silently followed.
Finally, alone, Cecilia was about to ask Nathaniel about Elliot when he released him.
"Mr. Rainsworth, how could you lie and say I'm your son? I'm clearly Calvin's!" Elliot said.
Cecilia was even more confused.
Nathaniel responded bluntly. "Do you expect me to tell everyone I'm raising another man's son?"
Elliot grinned cunningly, then looked at Cecilia with a pitiful expression. "Mommy, look what Mr. Rainsworth is saying!"
Nathaniel was stunned. He'd assumed Cecilia was waiting outside and hadn't realized she'd followed.
