Chapter 509: Realize the Situation

Only then did Nathaniel realize the situation. โ€œBefore I returned,โ€ he said, โ€œI instructed everyone not to alter anything in my home, not even a pen. I relied on my memory.โ€

Cecilia glanced around. Everything was in its place. Even so, she was impressed. โ€œYouโ€™re truly impressive,โ€ she said sincerely.

Nathaniel, unused to Cecilia's praise, smiled and tightened his grip on her hand. โ€œSilly,โ€ he murmured.

The atmosphere shifted, becoming flirtatious. Cecilia blushed. โ€œLet go of me. I need to mop the floor.โ€

โ€œAll right,โ€ Nathaniel replied, obediently loosening his grip. Cecilia felt the lingering warmth of his hand on hers. She grabbed the mop and cleaned the spilled water.

Finished, she saw Nathaniel standing before the floor-to-ceiling windows, his tall frame obscuring much of the balcony light. He turned, his face stern and regal.

Before he could speak, a voice announced from the entrance, โ€œMr. Nathaniel, Mrs. Rainsworth, Madam Elena has arrived.โ€

Elena entered, followed by housekeepers. โ€œWhereโ€™s Eli?โ€ she asked, looking around.

โ€œHeโ€™s upstairs, asleep,โ€ Nathaniel replied.

Elena sat on the couch. โ€œThen Iโ€™ll wait for him to wake up.โ€

Nathanielโ€™s blunt declaration shattered her calm. โ€œEli is not my son.โ€

Elena was stunned. โ€œWhat did you say?โ€

Nathaniel remained silent. Cecilia, feeling embarrassed, lied. โ€œEli is Calvinโ€™s and my son.โ€

Elenaโ€™s face crumpled. โ€œAre you joking?โ€ Sheโ€™d suspected the children were her grandchildren.

โ€œIโ€™m not joking. Eli also mentioned his surname is Reese, didnโ€™t he?โ€

Elena was speechless with anger. She didnโ€™t believe it. โ€œCecilia, do you even know what youโ€™re saying?โ€ she demanded, approaching Cecilia. โ€œIf thatโ€™s true, youโ€™ve betrayed Nathaniel.โ€

Cecilia remained calm. โ€œI guess I did.โ€

Elena clenched her fists. Nathaniel moved to her side. โ€œMom, stop. Letโ€™s go outside.โ€

โ€œStop?โ€ Elena was furious, first with Cecilia, then with her son. โ€œShe deceived you, and you blame me?โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t care,โ€ Nathaniel said, his voice deep.

Elena was shocked. โ€œDid you lose your mind along with your memories? She cheated on you!โ€ She felt like shaking some sense into her foolish son.

Nathaniel grimaced. โ€œLeave. I donโ€™t want to repeat myself.โ€

Stunned, Elena reluctantly left. Immediately, she called Dr. Lazlo. โ€œIf a car accident causes amnesia, does it affect intelligence, too?โ€ she asked. When, she wondered, would her son ever accept someone else as a stepfather?
