Chapter 587: Have You Been Doing Well?

Dressed in a gown, Elena looked stunning and remarkably youthful. When she entered and saw Elliot, she was instantly reminded of Nathanielโ€™s childhood.

โ€œEli, Iโ€™m your grandma,โ€ she said, bending to embrace him.

Elliot evaded her. โ€œMaโ€™am, I believe youโ€™ve mistaken me for someone else. Iโ€™m not your grandson.โ€

Elena choked back a sob. It was her first time being a grandmother, and she felt unsure. Immediately, she had her subordinates place the gifts before him.

โ€œEli, I bought these for you.โ€

Another one buying him giftsโ€ฆ Elliot looked up to see rows of bodyguards, each holding the latest video games, action figures, and high-end model kits. They were clearly expensive. This woman is quite wealthy and generousโ€”much more so than Paula, he thought, adopting a more benevolent expression.

โ€œIโ€™m sorry, Maโ€™am. Mommy said I canโ€™t accept things from strangers.โ€

Strangerโ€ฆ Elena was hurt.

โ€œEli, Iโ€™m not a stranger. Youโ€™ll understand in time. Just take the gifts.โ€ She was upset he didnโ€™t call her โ€œgrandma,โ€ but as her grandson, she couldnโ€™t bring herself to be angry.

Elliot yawned. โ€œNo, no, I really donโ€™t know you. Youโ€™ve mistaken me. I need to rest now. Bye.โ€

Elena choked back another sob. Why isnโ€™t he reacting to the gifts? Donโ€™t all children love this kind of thing? She was at a loss, unsure how to coax him.

The child before her was the spitting image of a young Nathaniel.

โ€œWhat will it take for you to believe Iโ€™m your grandma?โ€

Elliot said earnestly, โ€œI wonโ€™t believe you because I already have a grandma.โ€

Elena was bewildered. Who else would claim to be Nathanielโ€™s mother? She supposed he might be referring to Ceciliaโ€™s mother.

โ€œEli, I am your grandma, and your mother is my daughter-in-law.โ€ She wasnโ€™t sure if he understood the term.

โ€œReally?โ€ Elliot asked, blinking.

โ€œYes.โ€

โ€œBut if youโ€™re my grandma, why have I never seen you before?โ€

Elenaโ€™s eyes filled with affection. โ€œThatโ€™s because I wasnโ€™t aware of your existence,โ€ she said, reaching for his hand. Again, Elliot dodged her. Her hand froze mid-air.

โ€œEli, could you spare a moment to chat?โ€

โ€œOkay.โ€

Elliot decided to gauge her intentions. Elena asked where he lived.

โ€œI lived in a rented house with Mommy.โ€

Rented houseโ€ฆ Elena believed renters led miserable lives. She felt even more heartbroken for Elliot.

โ€œHow have you spent these past years?โ€

After a momentโ€™s thought, Elliot smoothly lied, โ€œWhen Mommy worked, I stayed home with Grandma.โ€ In fact, this was Jonathanโ€™s life.

โ€œWhich grandma?โ€

Elena found this odd. Ceciliaโ€™s mother was out of the question; she knew how abhorrently Paula had treated her. She wouldnโ€™t have helped Cecilia care for the child.

โ€œGrandma Martha.โ€

After inquiring, Elena discovered โ€œGrandma Marthaโ€ was Ceciliaโ€™s former nanny. Cecilia seems to have a poor grasp of propriety. She even allowed Eli to call the nanny โ€œgrandma.โ€

โ€œHave you been doing well?โ€

โ€œOf course. I was having a great time, much more than I am here. Could you please ask Mr. Rainsworth to release me? No matter the ransom, my daddy will pay it.โ€
