Chapter 589: The Confrontation
โWhat would happen if someone were to see us?โ Nathaniel chuckled. The driverโs forehead glistened with cold sweat. โGo to the hospital,โ Nathaniel instructed.
โRight away.โ
Inside, Elliot was creating a disturbance, refusing to eat. โI want to see my mommy. Why hasnโt she come? Mommyโฆโ The nanny was exasperated. โEli, youโve always been so obedient. Please behave this time.โ Elliot, usually compliant, was distraught over Ceciliaโs absence. โIโm not eating. Call my mommy.โ The nanny was troubled; she couldnโt contact Cecilia.
The ward door opened, revealing Nathaniel. โMr. Rainsworth,โ the nanny greeted. โLeave us,โ he ordered. After the nanny and bodyguard departed, only Elliot and Nathaniel remained.
Elliot stared at Nathanielโs somber face. โMr. Rainsworth, whereโs my mommy?โ Nathaniel sat down. โDo I need to tell you again? Call me Daddy.โ His voice was firm. Elliotโs face flushed. While he easily called Calvin โDaddy,โ he couldnโt bring himself to address his biological father as such. โHmph, youโre not my daddy.โ
โDo you want to see the paternity test?โ Nathaniel asked.
Elliot feigned ignorance. โWhat paternity test? I donโt understand, nor do I care.โ Nathaniel, unlike Cecilia, saw through Elliotโs clever act. He knew Elliot and Jonathan shared a similar intelligence.
โI have a question,โ Nathaniel said. โDoes your mommy say Iโm a bad person?โ Elliot didnโt find this strange. Cecilia rarely mentioned Nathaniel, and her emotions became volatile whenever she saw him in the media. Nathaniel had noticed this and initiated an investigation by Jonathan, revealing their shared parentage.
โMy mommy would never gossip,โ Elliot replied cautiously.
Nathaniel fell silent. โWhere did my mommy go?โ Elliot pressed. โSheโs having dinner with a superstar,โ Nathaniel replied, his voice heavy.
โMr. Eric?โ
Nathaniel remained silent. โItโs all your fault,โ Elliot declared. โIf you hadnโt forbidden Mommy from seeing me, she wouldnโt have gone out to dine with someone else! Sheโd be with me now.โ He understood Nathanielโs grim expression.
โShe enjoys dining with others. What does that have to do with me?โ
Nathaniel sighed. โEat quickly, or Iโll have them throw the food away.โ Learning Cecilia was with someone else, Elliot ate obediently, observing Nathaniel. That scumbag daddy still cares about Mommy. Is he jealous? He decided to offer comfort.
โMr. Rainsworth, my mommy is very beautiful. Itโs normal for her to have many suitors. As men, we should be magnanimous.โ
Nathaniel glanced at him. โShut up and eat.โ
Elliot ceased his attempts at consolation and ate in silence. Afterward, the bodyguard removed the leftovers. Cecilia still hadnโt returned. Nathaniel intended to review his Braille documents, but Elliotโs words distracted him. He couldnโt help but ask, โBesides Eric, who else is pursuing Cecilia?โ
