Chapter 589: The Confrontation

“What would happen if someone were to see us?” Nathaniel chuckled. The driver’s forehead glistened with cold sweat. “Go to the hospital,” Nathaniel instructed.

“Right away.”

Inside, Elliot was creating a disturbance, refusing to eat. “I want to see my mommy. Why hasn’t she come? Mommy…” The nanny was exasperated. “Eli, you’ve always been so obedient. Please behave this time.” Elliot, usually compliant, was distraught over Cecilia’s absence. “I’m not eating. Call my mommy.” The nanny was troubled; she couldn’t contact Cecilia.

The ward door opened, revealing Nathaniel. “Mr. Rainsworth,” the nanny greeted. “Leave us,” he ordered. After the nanny and bodyguard departed, only Elliot and Nathaniel remained.

Elliot stared at Nathaniel’s somber face. “Mr. Rainsworth, where’s my mommy?” Nathaniel sat down. “Do I need to tell you again? Call me Daddy.” His voice was firm. Elliot’s face flushed. While he easily called Calvin “Daddy,” he couldn’t bring himself to address his biological father as such. “Hmph, you’re not my daddy.”

“Do you want to see the paternity test?” Nathaniel asked.

Elliot feigned ignorance. “What paternity test? I don’t understand, nor do I care.” Nathaniel, unlike Cecilia, saw through Elliot’s clever act. He knew Elliot and Jonathan shared a similar intelligence.

“I have a question,” Nathaniel said. “Does your mommy say I’m a bad person?” Elliot didn’t find this strange. Cecilia rarely mentioned Nathaniel, and her emotions became volatile whenever she saw him in the media. Nathaniel had noticed this and initiated an investigation by Jonathan, revealing their shared parentage.

“My mommy would never gossip,” Elliot replied cautiously.

Nathaniel fell silent. “Where did my mommy go?” Elliot pressed. “She’s having dinner with a superstar,” Nathaniel replied, his voice heavy.

“Mr. Eric?”

Nathaniel remained silent. “It’s all your fault,” Elliot declared. “If you hadn’t forbidden Mommy from seeing me, she wouldn’t have gone out to dine with someone else! She’d be with me now.” He understood Nathaniel’s grim expression.

“She enjoys dining with others. What does that have to do with me?”

Nathaniel sighed. “Eat quickly, or I’ll have them throw the food away.” Learning Cecilia was with someone else, Elliot ate obediently, observing Nathaniel. That scumbag daddy still cares about Mommy. Is he jealous? He decided to offer comfort.

“Mr. Rainsworth, my mommy is very beautiful. It’s normal for her to have many suitors. As men, we should be magnanimous.”

Nathaniel glanced at him. “Shut up and eat.”

Elliot ceased his attempts at consolation and ate in silence. Afterward, the bodyguard removed the leftovers. Cecilia still hadn’t returned. Nathaniel intended to review his Braille documents, but Elliot’s words distracted him. He couldn’t help but ask, “Besides Eric, who else is pursuing Cecilia?”
