Chapter 613: I Am Rich
Unwilling to go to sleep, Elliot asked, “Mommy, can you and Daddy tell me and Jon a bedtime story?”
“What kind of bedtime story would you like to hear? I’ll tell you one,” Cecilia said gently, implying she could manage alone.
Nathaniel, his striking eyes and eyebrows intense, glanced over. “I’ve arranged for some AI robots to be delivered. They’ll tell you your bedtime story.”
Elliot was speechless.
Nathaniel kept his word. Soon, a remarkably lifelike AI robot arrived. It wasn't just a storyteller; it could assist with homework and even handle basic chores.
Elliot, who had initially planned to be Nathaniel's wingman, was quickly captivated by the robot. He and Jonathan retreated to their room to explore it.
Observing their immediate distraction, Cecilia reflected that if Nathaniel had been accepting earlier, they wouldn't have endured such hardship abroad.
As she climbed the stairs, Nathaniel called, “What happened at the parents' association today?”
Cecilia was startled, but before she could respond, Nathaniel added, “I’m the children’s father. You kept their birth a secret; are you planning more secrets now? I have the right to know.”
Cecilia's hesitation stemmed from his sudden question, not from any intention to deceive.
“Miranda, the parents' association president, is acquainted with the school board and could easily target Jon,” Cecilia explained.
Nathaniel noticed her hesitation when speaking to the children and sensed unspoken concerns. He hadn't anticipated this.
“Miranda's position is likely tied to the Rainsworth family's investment in the preschool. Old Mr. Rainsworth is the largest shareholder, if I recall correctly.”
Cecilia had initially believed Adrian was the benefactor, but it was Niel, clearly devoted to his great-grandson, Felix.
“I’ve heard that,” Cecilia agreed.
Nathaniel produced a card and handed it to Cecilia. “There’s enough money here to buy the preschool.” Their son should never suffer.
Cecilia stared, dazed. This guy has been lying about being broke.
She considered refusing, but since Nathaniel knew he was Elliot and Jonathan's father, financial support seemed appropriate. She took the card.
“Buying the kindergarten is extreme. I'm considering becoming president of the parents' association instead. Otherwise, Jon might be bullied.” Priscilla had described the president as unusually detached, wielding power without responsibility. Miranda, it seemed, had taken every advantage.
“Do as you see fit,” Nathaniel said, unconcerned about the expense.
Cecilia, initially unsure of her financial standing compared to Miranda, felt completely secure with the unlimited black card. After finishing some song lyrics and sending them to Eric, she scrolled through other mothers' Instagram accounts. Spotting coveted items—a limited-edition handbag and a haute couture dress—she ordered them without hesitation. In a single evening, she fulfilled a small portion of the mothers' desires.
