Chapter 635: Lose Temper Out of Embarrassment
Ever since Cassandra's engagement to Nicholas, they hadn't discussed their marriage further. Upon hearing the mention of marriage, Nicholas involuntarily glanced at Cecilia. Seeing her calm demeanor, he quietly said, "Mmm, I'll arrange it." He then gently withdrew his hand from Cassandra's and said, "Nathaniel, you two go ahead with the prenatal checkup. We won't intrude."
After he left, Cecilia took a moment to regain her composure. Nathaniel, gripping her hand tightly, softly asked, "Are you sad?"
Cecilia was bewildered. "What are you talking about?" She only then realized he was holding her hand firmly. "Let go of me."
Nathaniel refused. "You're so quick to lose your temper out of embarrassment?"
Cecilia tried to bite him. Nathaniel, accustomed to this, still wouldn't release her. However, passing hospital staff and patients were staring. Overwhelmed with embarrassment, Cecilia stopped biting him and straightened up.
In truth, she wasn't heartbroken, but utterly astonished. Nicholas had recently expressed a desire to reconcile, yet Cassandra was already pregnant before their marriage. Love, it seemed, always collided with reality.
"I was just surprised they had a child so quickly, nothing more," Cecilia said, unsuccessfully trying to shake free his grip. Nathaniel, she wondered, was he made of steel? Unafraid of pain?
Nathaniel listened, unconvinced, but didn't press her. He knew further questioning would only anger her again. After escorting Cecilia to the examination room, he waited outside.
At the hospital entrance, Cassandra and Nicholas entered their car. She lowered her head. "Nicholas, thank you for helping me." The child she carried wasn't his; it was the result of a previous assault. She still didn't know the father's identity.
Nicholas's expression softened. "You're my fiancรฉe. Of course, I'll help you."
"Nicholas, rest assured. Once my parents pass away and I inherit Jamieson Group and Evans Group, I will entrust them to you," Cassandra said, her eyes full of adoration. Her words testified to her affection.
Nicholas simply replied, "Take care of your health."
"Nicholas, are you really okay with this? If you're not, I can terminate the pregnancy," Cassandra asked again.
"The doctor said termination would harm your health. Don't worry, I don't mind," he reassured her. Feeling she'd chosen wisely, Cassandra threw herself into his embrace. Nicholas patted her shoulder, his disgust unseen by Cassandra.
Back inside the hospital, after the examination, the doctor reassured Cecilia and Nathaniel that the baby was healthy. Holding the test results, Cecilia exited with Nathaniel. "I told you there was nothing to worry about, didn't I? Shouldn't you be giving me the information now?"
Nathaniel was in a bad mood, but Cecilia remained oblivious. Annoyed, he said, "I'm not the one who needed a checkup. Besides, did I promise to give you the information after the examination?"
Cecilia felt a surge of anger. Hormonal, she blurted, "Then, in the future, if you're not going to agree, just say it. Don't play games." She stormed off, hailing a taxi and leaving Nathaniel alone at the hospital entrance. He stood there, feeling helpless, and called his driver. "Pick me up at the hospital."
