Chapter 256: Olive Enters School
Mia touched Olive's small head. "Crystal's the beauty queen of Bright Star University only because they haven't seen our Olive. When my Olive appears, that girl will be eclipsed. Olive will be the beauty queen of Bright Star University."
Tom Hart swelled with pride. "Our Olive is a thousand times more beautiful than Crystal."
Olive coughed, regaining their attention. "Dad, Mom, let's hurry to Bright Star University."
"Okay, let's go."
The three strode toward the university. A security guard shouted, "This is bad! That bastard's here! Close the gate! Don't let them in!"
The gate slammed shut. The guard frantically called the principal's office. "Vice Principal Baker, it's serious! That little devil is here!" The principal rarely visited; Vice Principal Baker managed everything. All the guards stood watch.
Olive looked at Tom. "Dad, didn't you say you and the vice chancellor are old acquaintances? Isn't this welcomeโฆ unusual?"
Tom chuckled nervously. "Vice Principal Baker and I areโฆacquainted. There was an incident. A despicable person from Bright Star University drugged a subordinate's daughter. Iโฆ intervened. Vice Principal Baker tried to dissuade me, butโฆ well, let's just say he was hospitalized for a while."
Olive nodded. "Good job, Dad."
Tom, relieved by her approval, grinned. "I know I didn't do anything wrong. Vice Principal Baker is probably a little apprehensive, hence the closed gate. I'll apologize when he arrives."
Hurried footsteps approached. Vice Principal Baker and his men arrived. Seeing Tom, Baker winced; he'd once broken his nose.
"Tom, what are you doing here? We have our own procedures. Why are you here?" Baker asked.
Tom stepped forward. "Vice Principal Baker, I apologize for that past incident. I'll treat you to dinner. Now, please open the gate. My long-lost daughter is here to study."
News of Tom's reunited daughter, and her broken engagement with Noah, had spread. Baker straightened, eyeing Olive's veiled face; only her bright eyes were visible. He was surprisedโhe seemed to recognize those eyes, but couldn't place them. His prejudice against Olive, a woman from a family known for violence rather than academics, remained.
"Do you think our university is a marketplace? Admission is based on merit. I'll make no exceptions. Take your daughter home."
Tom's face hardened. He grabbed the gate, glaring. "Damn old man, I respect you, but don't underestimate us! Open the gate! My daughter is studying here today, or I'll break it down!" He shook the gate, the iron groaning, the alarm blaring.
Baker recoiled, hiding behind the guards. "Tom, stop this!"
Mia stepped forward, arching an eyebrow. "Honey, don't waste time on this old fool. This damn door won't stop me, I'll fly over it and grab him myself!"
Baker's face paled. He pointed at Tom, then Mia, then the guards. "Protect me! Stop them!"
Olive intervened. "Dad, Mom, let's go. He clearly doesn't want me here."
Tom turned. "Olive, if we want something, no one can stop us. I'll take you in. What major? We'll bring a stool, sit wherever we want, and anyone who causes trouble gets kicked out!"
Baker trembled. He'd never encountered such audacity. His dislike for Olive intensified.
Olive smiled wryly at Tom's logic. She pulled Mia's arm. "Mom, let's not bother them. If they don't want us, there are other universities."
Mia nodded. "Darling, I listen to you."
Tom glared at Baker, then turned to Olive. "Olive, let's go to Watson University. Principal Harris is kind."
Mia disagreed. "Bright Star is the best medical university. University A has a bad reputation; Olive would be ridiculed there."
Olive smiled. "Okay, I'll take the entrance exam for Watson University."
Tom and Mia took Olive to Watson University, where Principal Harris welcomed them warmly. "Mr. Hart, welcome. Vice Principal Baker at Bright Star has become increasingly arrogant. Your daughter seems bright and talented."
