Chapter 390: The Proposal
Marvin didn't go to the Academy of Sciences; instead, he went to a bar to drink. He drank heavily, and soon empty bottles littered the table. Charlotte entered, Jean at her side.
"Bro, I really like Marvin," Charlotte said. "This is perfect; he's hurt by Olive. Bro, you love me most. Can you make him love me?"
Jean, from a dark corner, replied, "Yes."
"Really? Good! Tell me what to do!" Charlotte urged.
Jean handed her a packet of powder. "Put this in Marvin's drink. It's colorless and tasteless. He won't notice. After he drinks it, he'll obey you."
Charlotte quickly took the powder, exclaiming, "Big brother, I'll go to Marvin!"
She happily approached Marvin, patting his shoulder. "Marvin, why are you drinking alone?"
Marvin took a swig of wine, looked at her with dark eyes, and asked, "Who are you?"
"Marvin, it's Charlotte! Don't you remember me?" she said, playfully winking.
Marvin averted his gaze, continuing to drink. He simply said, "Oh," causing Charlotte's face to freeze. She had loved him for years, vowing to marry him, but he never looked at her directly. This only fueled her stubborn determination to conquer him, even if it meant destroying him.
"Marvin, look! It looks likeโฆ Olive is here! She's looking for you!" Charlotte exclaimed, pointing.
Hearing Olive's name, Marvin froze, turning to search for her. Charlotte, consumed by anger and jealousy, knew Olive alone could attract him. But he would soon love her.
Quickly, she added the powder to Marvin's wine. Finding Olive absent, Marvin's dark eyes flashed with loneliness and disappointment.
"Sorry, Marvin," Charlotte said, feigning apology. "I seem to be blind. Olive isn't here. She's probably with Elvis."
Marvin said nothing, continuing to drink. Charlotte's heart leaped as she watched him finish half the drugged bottle. He drank it!
He dropped the empty bottle, his body stiffening. His bright black eyes dulled, becoming vacant.
Charlotte said, "Marvin, are you okay? Remember, you love Charlotte most, and you must listen to her."
Marvin, his face expressionless and cold, nodded. "I know."
"Marvin, who do you love?"
"I love you," Marvin replied, looking at Charlotte.
Charlotte's heart soared with joy. She hugged and kissed him. Then, she noticed Olive entering the bar. She was finally here!
With a proud, provocative smile, Charlotte said, "Marvin, propose to me now! I want to marry you!"
Marvin knelt before her, declaring, "Charlotte, I love you. I will marry you and make you happy."
Their proposal immediately drew attention. People gathered, exclaiming, "Isn't this Second Young Master Augustine? He's proposing to Lady Charlotte!" "He's finally realized Charlotte is a good woman!" "Bravo!"
Olive had come to find Marvin, knowing he'd been deeply hurt. She'd always considered his emotional emptiness and pure heart vulnerable. Seeing him drinking with Charlotte, she was wary.
Then she saw the proposal. Marvin was proposing to Charlotte! The crowd cheered. Olive, seeing Charlotte's triumphant smile, simply nodded and said, "Yes, Marvin. I'm willing to marry you."
Marvin stood, and Charlotte threw herself into his arms. Her eyes darted to Olive, a fiery smile on her lips.
Olive frowned. This was not normal, incredibly unusual.
Charlotte, arm-in-arm with Marvin, stopped before Olive. "Olive, Marvin proposed, and I said yes. We'll marry soon. You must come to the wedding."
Olive ignored her, her bright eyes fixed on Marvin's face. "Marvin, do you really want to marry Charlotte? Marriage is a huge decision. Be careful."
Marvin looked at her coldly. "I love Charlotte. I don't care about you."
"See? He likes me now!" Charlotte said happily. "Marvin, let's go."
As they were leaving, Olive reached out and grasped Marvin's arm. She intended to speak, but upon touching his muscles, she noticed something was wrong. Feeling his pulse, she realized the truth.
