Chapter 53

Belle assumed Kyle had deliberately tried to attract her attention and make her jealous. Considering her social status and the occasion, Belle forced herself to calm down, taking deep breaths. She refused to expose her partner's ugly side in public. Besides, Erin was approaching.

Smiling, Belle said to Kyle, “Kyle, I know you’re provoking me. You want to appear as though someone still cares for you, but to me, you’re nothing but a disgusting clown.”

“Don’t blame me for not warning you. You’re going to get yourself into trouble if you don’t leave now. The Curtis family might be lenient for Faith’s sake, but the Rivas family will definitely teach you a lesson. More importantly, Mike Clements of Rivas Corporation is Matthew’s boss. If he hears you’ve hurt Matthew, what do you think will happen?”

Seeing Enzo approaching, Belle plastered on a huge smile. In an ingratiating and enthusiastic manner, she exclaimed, “Wow, Mr. Rivas, you’re so handsome today! You’ve stunned me! Congratulations on your father’s full recovery! That’s wonderful news!”

Meanwhile, Chloe straightened up and acted coquettishly to attract Enzo’s attention. Enzo was the younger brother of the current head of the Rivas family and a favorite of Elliot Rivas. The woman who married Enzo would become Mrs. Rivas—every woman's dream.

Even though Belle had better options, she planned to maintain a good relationship with Rivas Corporation.

Enzo flashed Belle a polite smile and nodded diplomatically. “Ms. Cotton, thank you for your concern. My father is doing fine now.”

He overheard their earlier conversation. “Are you close with Mr. Archer and Ms. Curtis? That saves me from introducing you.” Belle and Chloe were dumbfounded. Enzo’s acquaintance with Faith wasn’t surprising, but Kyle? Enzo even addressed Kyle respectfully.

“Mr. Rivas, do you know Kyle?” Despite her frown, Belle managed a smile.

“Of course I do,” he replied curtly.

His curt reply added to Belle’s confusion, but then something struck her.

“Technically, I know Kyle Archer. As for Faith, she and I were once very good friends,” Enzo explained, glancing at Faith, a look Belle and Chloe interpreted as interest.

Belle and Chloe were upset that Enzo was interested in Faith. What was so attractive about her, anyway?

Kyle took a step back, a faint smile playing on his lips. “Belle, Chloe, anything else? I… please stay away.”

Despite her anger, Belle couldn’t lose her temper in Enzo’s presence. Enzo immediately separated Belle and Chloe from Kyle with his arm. Then, he respectfully addressed Kyle: “Mr. Archer, I’ll guide you to your seats.”

Turning to Belle, he said, “Ms. Cotton, since we know each other, let’s talk again when you’re free. Keep in touch!”

Belle scowled. “No problem.” Belle watched as Enzo led Kyle and Faith away. Her face scrunched up in a frown.

“Kyle knows Mr. Rivas? Now that’s trouble,” muttered Belle.

Chloe shook her head. “Belle, I think they haven’t known each other that long. Don’t forget Mr. Rivas is incredibly kind. Everyone in Kendonia knows that. Even if…”

The girls exchanged a look. Chloe was referring to the way Enzo looked at Faith.

“But Mr. Rivas is only nice to Kyle because he’s interested in Faith. I wonder if he’d still treat Kyle that way when he learns Faith is crazy about Kyle,” analyzed Chloe.
