Chapter 107

As Lemira saw Evelina enter, a flash of irritation crossed her face. Fate, it seemed, delighted in such inconvenient reunions.

Evelina, radiating an air of angelic serenity, sauntered over. "Lemmy, you've been away a while. Alaric's worried, so he froze your credit card. Don't worry about it."

Lemira remained composed. Having endured financial hardship in her past life, she understood the true meaning of financialโ€”and therefore personalโ€”independence.

Jessica retorted, "Enough, Evelina. Stop showing off. If Lemira chose to return, she could reclaim her place as the Langston heiress instantly. You, however, never will."

Evelina's face flushed; she hated being reminded of her inferior background.

Ignoring Evelina, Lemira turned to the salesperson. "I'd like to try on these two dresses, please." The salesperson, recognizing Lemira, was attentive.

From the sidelines, Evelina, simmering with annoyance, produced her VIP card. "Sorry, but I've taken a liking to those dresses, too."

Jessica exploded. "Evelina, have you no shame? First come, first served!"

Judy interjected, "Well, Eve's a VIP, so she gets priority. Let's see if Lemira has a VIP card to flaunt."

Lemira, having left home with nothing, lacked such a card. The assistant looked uncomfortable. "Ms. Langston, what do you say?"

Lemira shrugged. "I don't have a VIP card. Let her have them."

Jessica was close to tears. Evelina, however, felt triumphant, believing she'd finally solidified her position as the sole Langston heiress.

Lemira continued browsing, but Evelina's sidekick began sabotaging her, snatching clothes. Lemira remained silent, selecting various clothes and shoes.

When Evelina noticed the growing pile, Lemira stopped, looking at Evelina. "You're not planning to buy all this, are you?"

Evelina, chin high, replied smugly, "Yes. There's an influencer gala tomorrow night. Alaric's taking me, so I need some nice outfits."

Lemira wasn't surprised; Alaric had taken Evelina to the same event in her past life.

Jessica seethed. "What's so great about that event? In fact, Lemiraโ€ฆ"

Lemira interrupted, turning to the salesperson. "Since Ms. Sterling feels so generous, why don't you ring her up?"

Evelina's face fell. "Wait, I haven't even tried them on yet."

"They come in sizes. You can exchange them if they don't fit. Are you just trying them on to avoid buying them?" Lemira's calm tone effectively cornered Evelina.

Jessica added, "If you can't afford it, don't hoard so much. A VIP member who can't even splurge on this? Please."

Through gritted teeth, Evelina said, "Who said I can't afford it? Bag them all."

Her sidekick scoffed, "See, Lemira? In the Langston family, Eve is the favored one. Buying out this store wouldn't even be a problem!"

Evelina, frustrated, slapped Judy. "Who asked you to blabber?" She reluctantly handed over her credit card, wincing at the anticipated bill.

The assistant swiped the card. "Sorry, but this card cannot be read."

Evelina's expression changed. "How's that possible? My brother gave me this card; it's impossible!" The owner tried again. "Ms. Sterling, there's a limit on the card preventing this transaction."

Humiliation burned Evelina's cheeks. To maintain her facade of obedience, she rarely made such large purchases.
