Chapter 108

But she never imagined there would be a spending limit, not even enough to buy these few items of clothing. Lemira looked at her with a smirk. โ€œCanโ€™t afford it, huh?โ€ Jessica snatched back the dress Lemira had dropped earlier. โ€œIf you canโ€™t afford it, stop trying to show off.โ€ Evelinaโ€™s eyes were red with anger. โ€œLemmy, didnโ€™t you say you wouldnโ€™t use a dime of your familyโ€™s money?โ€ She couldnโ€™t believe Lemira could afford such expensive clothes.

Lemira pulled out her card and handed it to the manager. โ€œCharge it; Iโ€™ll try these on in a bit.โ€ Judy, her sidekick, protested loudly. โ€œWe saw them first! How can you sell them to her? We are premium members!โ€ The manager replied politely, โ€œWe usually go by who places the order first. Besides, Ms. Langston may not have a membership card, but sheโ€™s still the Langston heiress, a VIP in our store.โ€

โ€œSheโ€™s been kicked out!โ€

The manager, unflinching, replied, โ€œItโ€™s just a temporary disagreement. After all, you canโ€™t sever blood ties.โ€ Lemira was, after all, the only biological sister in the Langston familyโ€”a fact that made her uncomfortable. She didnโ€™t want to be bound by so-called blood relations! She took the dress and headed to the fitting room.

Outside, Evelina tearfully called Alaric, but only his assistant answered. โ€œWhy isnโ€™t Alaric picking up?โ€ โ€œThe boss got smashed last night; heโ€™s not up yet.โ€ Drunk? What was she supposed to do now? She was instantly annoyed. Why did he have to get drunk at a time like this? She absolutely couldn't lose to Lemira.

Evelina had no choice but to call Lucian, who answered quickly. โ€œEve, whatโ€™s wrong?โ€

โ€œLucian~โ€ Her voice was whiny. โ€œI had no choice but to call you.โ€

โ€œWhy are you crying? Whoโ€™s bothering you?โ€

โ€œLucian, I was out shopping and ran into Lemmy. I thought, since she ran away from home without any money, sheโ€™d be broke. But it seems like sheโ€™s not short on cash. I didnโ€™t want her spending someone elseโ€™s money, so I tried to pay for her things, but I didnโ€™t have enough. She seemed a bit upset.โ€

Judy quickly added, โ€œLemiraโ€™s really being too much, flaunting her money in front of Eve, saying Eve is living beyond her means.โ€

โ€œLemmy wouldnโ€™t mean it like that.โ€ Evelina gave her sidekick a meaningful look.

Lucian, puzzled, asked, โ€œWhere did she get all that money?โ€

โ€œIโ€™m not sure,โ€ Evelina replied.

โ€œAlright, I got it. Come back home, donโ€™t get into a conflict with her.โ€

With a reluctant sigh, Evelina hung up, kicking a mannequin in frustration. Lucian wouldโ€™ve definitely handed her a large sum of cash to settle the bill.

Judy asked, โ€œSo, did Lucian give you a hefty sum to buy clothes?โ€

โ€œNo, he told me to go home.โ€

Evelina couldnโ€™t swallow her pride, but then her phone beeped with a message from Lucian: [Iโ€™ve transferred the money to you. Pay for Lemmyโ€™s stuff too.]

Satisfied, Evelina returned to the store. Just as Lemira emerged from the fitting room, Evelina strutted in, clearly having secured the funds. Evelina crossed her arms smugly. โ€œWrap up all these clothes for me; Iโ€™m taking them all.โ€ Lemira remained unfazed; she really didnโ€™t care. Evelina turned to Lemira with a bragging tone. โ€œLucian just transferred a hefty sum to me, told me to spend it all, or donโ€™t bother comingโ€ฆโ€
