Chapter 108
But she never imagined there would be a spending limit, not even enough to buy these few items of clothing. Lemira looked at her with a smirk. โCanโt afford it, huh?โ Jessica snatched back the dress Lemira had dropped earlier. โIf you canโt afford it, stop trying to show off.โ Evelinaโs eyes were red with anger. โLemmy, didnโt you say you wouldnโt use a dime of your familyโs money?โ She couldnโt believe Lemira could afford such expensive clothes.
Lemira pulled out her card and handed it to the manager. โCharge it; Iโll try these on in a bit.โ Judy, her sidekick, protested loudly. โWe saw them first! How can you sell them to her? We are premium members!โ The manager replied politely, โWe usually go by who places the order first. Besides, Ms. Langston may not have a membership card, but sheโs still the Langston heiress, a VIP in our store.โ
โSheโs been kicked out!โ
The manager, unflinching, replied, โItโs just a temporary disagreement. After all, you canโt sever blood ties.โ Lemira was, after all, the only biological sister in the Langston familyโa fact that made her uncomfortable. She didnโt want to be bound by so-called blood relations! She took the dress and headed to the fitting room.
Outside, Evelina tearfully called Alaric, but only his assistant answered. โWhy isnโt Alaric picking up?โ โThe boss got smashed last night; heโs not up yet.โ Drunk? What was she supposed to do now? She was instantly annoyed. Why did he have to get drunk at a time like this? She absolutely couldn't lose to Lemira.
Evelina had no choice but to call Lucian, who answered quickly. โEve, whatโs wrong?โ
โLucian~โ Her voice was whiny. โI had no choice but to call you.โ
โWhy are you crying? Whoโs bothering you?โ
โLucian, I was out shopping and ran into Lemmy. I thought, since she ran away from home without any money, sheโd be broke. But it seems like sheโs not short on cash. I didnโt want her spending someone elseโs money, so I tried to pay for her things, but I didnโt have enough. She seemed a bit upset.โ
Judy quickly added, โLemiraโs really being too much, flaunting her money in front of Eve, saying Eve is living beyond her means.โ
โLemmy wouldnโt mean it like that.โ Evelina gave her sidekick a meaningful look.
Lucian, puzzled, asked, โWhere did she get all that money?โ
โIโm not sure,โ Evelina replied.
โAlright, I got it. Come back home, donโt get into a conflict with her.โ
With a reluctant sigh, Evelina hung up, kicking a mannequin in frustration. Lucian wouldโve definitely handed her a large sum of cash to settle the bill.
Judy asked, โSo, did Lucian give you a hefty sum to buy clothes?โ
โNo, he told me to go home.โ
Evelina couldnโt swallow her pride, but then her phone beeped with a message from Lucian: [Iโve transferred the money to you. Pay for Lemmyโs stuff too.]
Satisfied, Evelina returned to the store. Just as Lemira emerged from the fitting room, Evelina strutted in, clearly having secured the funds. Evelina crossed her arms smugly. โWrap up all these clothes for me; Iโm taking them all.โ Lemira remained unfazed; she really didnโt care. Evelina turned to Lemira with a bragging tone. โLucian just transferred a hefty sum to me, told me to spend it all, or donโt bother comingโฆโ
