Chapter 305
Lemira thought about the Sinclairs' warning that her actions could drag her family into the fray, and indeed, they had tattled to the Langstons. Savoring the disaster, are we?
With a dismissive tone, Lemira responded, โWell, Iโve cut ties with the Langstons. This is my own mess.โ
โAnd just how big a mess can you handle on your own? The Sinclairs have already reached out to me, telling me to get my rebellious sister in line, or they wonโt be so polite next time.โ
Lemira retorted coldly, โAfter the car accident the Sinclairs orchestrated, which almost killed me, do you really think theyโve been polite?โ Evelina, listening in, her eyes gleamed.
So, everyone believes the Sinclairs were behind Lemiraโs accident. That works out perfectly.
Feigning concern, Evelina said, โLemira, Asher is just looking out for you. Even though youโve severed ties with the Langstons, youโre still one of them, and thatโs something you canโt change.โ
Alaric chimed in, โLemira, Asher had a tough time drinking with the Sinclairs at lunch today, all for your sake.โ
Seeing Lemiraโs defiant look, Asher fumed, โRemember, itโs me, itโs the Langstons who cleaned up your mess.โ
Oh, what a grand gesture indeed.
โI didnโt ask for your help. You couldโve easily told the Sinclairs Iโm no longer a Langston and that my fate doesnโt concern you. Wouldnโt that have solved it?โ
Lemiraโs gaze was steady, her presence more formidable.
Asher exploded, โUngrateful wretch, Iโm here cleaning up your mess, and this is the thanks I get?โ
Evelina quickly intervened, โAsher, calm down. Lemira is just stubborn. She doesnโt mean it; sheโll understand eventually.โ
โAsher, letโs talk this out.โ
Alaric stepped in front of Asher, who looked ready to throw a punch.
โWhy are you stopping me? I told her not to come to Orvin for college, to avoid trouble we canโt cover for, but she insisted!โ
Asher pointed at Lemira, โDo you have any idea how hard I worked to smooth things over with the Sinclairs, and I donโt even get a word of thanks!โ
Lemira looked up, a sarcastic smile on her face. So itโs the same old story. They scold her, blame her, from their high horses.
She raised an eyebrow, โI didnโt ask for this, and frankly, I donโt care!โ
Turning, she headed down the stairs, no longer wanting to engage.
โAsher, let her go,โ Alaric said, trying to hold her back, โWe need to take her to meet with the Sinclairs in person!โ
Asher was furious, thinking Lemira would learn her lesson, but she was as defiant as ever!
Alaric actually ran after her, grabbing her arm, โWait.โ
โDonโt touch me!โ
Lemira pulled away, looking at Asher, โDo you really think a simple drink with the Sinclairs is enough to make them back off?โ
โOr what? You think you can handle it on your own? Ms. Susanna Sinclairโs sister is engaged to Orvinโs most influential heir. One word from them, and the Langstons are toast!โ
Lemira knew about Susannaโs sisterโs engagement to Orvinโs power heir! Was she supposed to just sit back and wait for doom?
Lemira replied coldly, โI have evidence of the Sinclairs using Jackson to launder money at the team base. They wouldnโt dare make a move!โ
Having leverage meant having a say. Asher was taken aback.
Evelina instinctively said, โBut Lemira, this means youโve completely antagonized the Sinclairs.โ
โAnd what? Wait for you all to lord over me, claiming Iโm safe only because of the Langstons? Spare me!โ Evelina, with a hint of arrogance, said, โBut Asher did put in the effort, and the Sinclairs did respect that.โ
โStop flattering yourselves. The Sinclairs were just testing the waters at lunch, seeing if the evidence was in your hands.โ
Lemira looked meaningfully at Evelina, โAfter all, I have the evidence, I have the leverage. How could they rashly act?โ
Evelina, remembering Lemiraโs previous threat, felt uneasy, avoiding Lemiraโs gaze. She too had something to fear from Lemira, a silent warning!
Asherโs face darkened, realizing Lemiraโs words rang true.
