Chapter 493

Lemira couldnโ€™t help but burst into laughter when she heard those words. She retorted, โ€œIโ€™ve never seen anyone as shamelessly brazen as you guys.โ€

Evelina, trying to maintain her composure, said, โ€œEven though I canโ€™t recall how many times the script has been edited, I was the one who came up with the initial idea and the direction of the plot. You canโ€™t just kick me to the curb now, can you?โ€

Lemira couldnโ€™t help but laugh again. She looked around at her colleagues and said, โ€œDid you all hear that? Evelinaโ€™s so-called โ€˜ideasโ€™ were all unusable. She opens her mouth once and expects to have her name on my screenplay.โ€

Her colleagues were instantly infuriated. โ€œThatโ€™s just shameless, claiming credit for the screenplay just like that.โ€

โ€œIโ€™ve always heard that the Langstons treat their own sister poorly but favor an unrelated sister instead. Today, Iโ€™ve finally seen it for myself.โ€

The colleagues, who had created countless โ€˜innocent victimโ€™ characters, were all too familiar with these tactics.

Evelina stammered in response, โ€œThatโ€™s not it. I really did contribute to the screenplay.โ€

โ€œIf you really have evidence, just show the drafts you contributed to. No need to play the sympathy card here.โ€

Evelina was at a loss for words because she had no drafts to show. She could only look towards Asher.

Asher was also furious. He glared at Caspian, โ€œDonโ€™t think bringing Lemira here will change anything. Iโ€™ve already decided to hand over the management of the company to Evelina. You better take some time off and wait for this to blow over.โ€

With just a word, Asher, the major shareholder, decided Caspianโ€™s fate. A smug look flashed in Evelinaโ€™s eyes as she said to Caspian, โ€œCaspian, rest assured, Iโ€™ll manage the company well. If I encounter anything I donโ€™t understand, Iโ€™ll still consult you.โ€

Lemira scoffed, โ€œThe company has always been run by Caspian. Evelina, someone who couldnโ€™t even score well on her SATs, probably canโ€™t even understand the companyโ€™s ledgers, let alone manage a company.โ€

Asher felt embarrassed. โ€œLemira, youโ€™re just a playwright; you donโ€™t understand company management either. From now on, your scripts will need to pass Eveโ€™s review.โ€

Evelinaโ€™s smile widened, basking in her apparent victory over Lemira, the playwright. Evelina intentionally said to Lemira, โ€œLemmy, I know youโ€™re quite the talent when it comes to writing scripts, but donโ€™t forget the companyโ€™s role in nurturing that talent. I hope youโ€™ll write even better scripts in the future, or the company might not be so lenient.โ€

Evelina leaned closer to Lemira, lowering her voice, โ€œNo matter how much you struggle, you wonโ€™t win against me.โ€

Lemira pushed the โ€˜innocent victimโ€™ away. She coldly said, โ€œThose scripts were all Caspian begging me to write because of their quality, which got them fast-tracked into production, not because of any โ€˜leniency.โ€™ I told you, you know nothing about running a company, but you wouldnโ€™t believe me.โ€

Caspian also stepped forward to clarify, โ€œThatโ€™s right, I did indeed beg Lemira to write those scripts. Even though sheโ€™s a newcomer, everyone can see her talent.โ€

โ€œBut without the company, a playwrightโ€™s scripts are just paper!โ€

Evelina couldnโ€™t stand Caspian defending Lemira like this. Hearing this, Lemira laughed out loud, โ€œDid everyone hear that? We playwrights are just paper, according to her.โ€

Evelinaโ€™s words had angered everyone! Realizing her mistake, Evelina quickly tried to clarify, โ€œThatโ€™s not what I meant. I was talking about Lemira, not everyone.โ€

Someone couldnโ€™t stand it anymore and snapped, โ€œMr. Asher, are you letting an outsider run the company because you think itโ€™s not going bankrupt fast enough?โ€

Asher looked at Evelina with disappointment. What a fool!
