Chapter 75
Julie said, sounding official, “Do! Don’t speak nonsense!”
Amaya waved a dismissive hand. “Forget it. I knew you’d be stubborn about it.”
Julie lowered her head, saying nothing.
Amaya reached out to hold her hand, smiling. “Alright, alright. You don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to. Let’s go for a walk outside and buy me some daily necessities.”
Julie nodded.
The two of them went to the supermarket again. Considering Amaya was moving into a new place, Julie bought a set of tableware as a gift for her.
They finished their shopping. It was already past 5:00 p.m. It was only after they were done that Julie called Lucian to send him the clothes she’d promised.
After a moment’s thought, she asked, “Is your place far from Deepblue Central, Amaya?”
Amaya looked thoughtful. “Why are you asking? Are you planning on buying a house there?”
Julie evaded her question. “I’m not. It was just a casual question.”
“It’s not that far from here,” Amaya replied at last. “It’s about ten minutes away by taxi. Do you want to go there?”
Julie nodded. “Yes. I need to make a trip there.”
“Do you have an acquaintance living there? You know that gated community belongs to Blaise’s family, right?”
“Blaise mentioned it to me before!”
Amaya made a guess. “You’re not going to see Mr. Fuller, are you?”
Julie fell silent. She hadn’t expected Amaya to guess correctly right away.
For a moment, she had no idea what to say.
Amaya had a knowing look on her face.
“You are, aren’t you? I just knew it,” she said in amusement.
Julie sighed in exasperation. “So what? It’s not a big deal. I’m just returning his clothes.”
Amaya clicked her tongue. “Oh, really, alright. Hahaha!”
Julie murmured, “You don’t know a thing.”
Amaya wrapped an arm around her shoulders. “Oh, my dear sister at heart, you can keep being stubborn if you like!”
Before, she had simply felt that Julie was a really stubborn person. She would devote herself wholeheartedly to whoever or whatever she had her heart set on, and she would keep at it even if she hit a dead end.
Now, she discovered that not only was Julie stubborn, she could also be incredibly pigheaded and dishonest with herself. She clearly cared, but she insisted on pretending not to.
Julie lowered her head, retorting obstinately, “I’m not being stubborn.”
“Yes, yes, you’re not,” Amaya said dismissively. “Hurry up and go if you want to. I can handle the rest by myself.”
“Are you being serious? I’ll contact you again,” Julie said hesitantly.
Amaya nodded, urging, “Hurry up and go. It’s already really late.”
Leaving Amaya’s place, Julie took a taxi directly to the address Lucian had sent her.
Unexpectedly, the security guard refused to let her in, as only actual homeowners were allowed into the gated community.
No matter what she said, the security guard maintained a professional tone.
Seeing there was no way around this, Julie had no choice but to call Lucian.
However, he didn’t pick up the call.
She stood waiting by the entrance for a few minutes, but she still didn’t manage to get through to Lucian. In the end, she could only leave his clothes with the security guard and ask Lucian to retrieve them himself.
Just as she was about to leave, a car slowly drove over and stopped beside her.
In the next second, the car window slid down, revealing Lucian’s cool expression.
Julie looked up and was quite stunned. “You’re back?”
Lucian nodded. “Why aren’t you going in?”
“They don’t allow non-residents in,” Julie replied honestly. “I’ve left your clothes in the security guard’s office. You didn’t pick up when I called you, so I was just preparing to leave.”
Lucian glanced at the security guard before saying, “Pick up the clothes, then get in the car.”
In a weird turn of events, Julie ran back to the security guard’s office, retrieved the clothes, and then got into Lucian’s car.
It was only when they had arrived at Lucian’s house that she belatedly realized that she should…
